Does anyone use this program and how would you recommend it? I'm getting a macbook pro in the new year and just trying to suss out some mac-friendly programs to invest in (long term dell user here!). Is it helpful for photography? I'm looking into getting a copy of photoshop too, can't live without it but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? Any help would be great!

If you're used to photoshop, then get Lightroom instead.
Aperture should be swept under the carpet by Apple, except for those celebs who've signed a contract to pimp it and who regret it now...

I use Aperture as my main image-management software. I started using it before Lightroom came out, so I can't directly compare to it, although I've used the Lightroom demo a few times (which hardly makes me qualified to comment on it).

I use Aperture to manage about 30k images, with about 50% of my time spent on the road with it, and if I were to pick my personal favourite reasons for liking it, I'd say:

    - designed well for people who spend a lot of time on the road, and who need to make multiple backups across multiple disks as they go.
    - Has almost all all the image controls I need built into it, so I rarely need to round-trip images to PS, except for correcting distortion and removing noise.
    - decent interface, although quirky to learn. Capable of sorting and cataloging 500+ image shoots very quickly.
    - Integrated into MacOS very well. Can pick an image and email it directly from Mail without even needing to start Aperture, similar for copying to your ipod etc.

I've briefly used it - Looks pretty good, but wasn't what I wanted - It feels like Adobe Bridge, Lightroom and Photoshop thrown into one, but missing something. But then again, I don't really like using the Mac's in the studio...
