Yes, wireless is indeed possible. I would recommend wireless streaming of media from your PC to PS3.

make sure you keep your ps3 is close to your modem or it might disconnect.

??? As long as you are in good wireless reception, you shouldn't have any problems...

What would you define as close?

Yep... free routers are usually free for a reason. I learnt that the hard way after using the appalingly bad netgear router that NTL give out.

Have you tried updating your router firmware. The Latest firmware may have fixes for poor wireless connectivity. You could also try a different Wireless Channel on the router. Some channels can cause interference and poor connection.

Saying that is like saying that all cars are crap based on your experience of driving a Lada...

Wireless is fantastic when you have it properly set up. There's nothing like vegging out on the couch with a laptop:)

i dont have a laptop and dont intend to get one, i'd just rather wired but i'm sure at some stage i'll prob have to go wireless

I haven't had any trouble with wireless either.
I have a PS3 and 3 laptops all working off a wireless router with no problems. But if your equipment is in close proximity to a 4 port router and you can connect them with cat 5 cable then yeah there's no need for wireless.

oh yeah i wanted to ask someone does cable quality matter over distance with rj45 like it does with hdmi

I think it's fine for about 100 metres, if the cable is any longer than that then signal degradation will occur if you don't have some kind of repeater. (my net+ is seriously rusty at this stage, so that may be a bit wrong:p)
Cable length shouldn't be a problem if you're running a wire through your typical house anyway...

would i loose any speed on a cheap cable i think its 5 metres and it was only a tenner or somethin like that

    Nah, that should be fine.

Or not having to lug out a 30m lan cable every time you want to play ps3.

The PS3 has built-in wifi (apart from the 20gb model which isn't available in Europe anyway)

    Hi,
I was thinking of buying a ps3 in the u.s and was wondering if anyone knows of any issues with using it this side of the pond. eg region coding etc?
also is it possible to mod the ps3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 346 ✭✭LeoGilly

one more question for the road. Can you charge the remotes while ps3 is on standby or does it always ave to be turned on??

    sylver72:

US ps3 are region 1, as in they will play region1 discs only. at the moment ps3 games are not region locked but there is nothing to stop developers from doing it in the future. so if you buy a US ps3 you'll be fine for games, but you'll have to buy blu-ray movies from the states.

    leogilly:

the controllers will charge as long as the power plug is in and the power switch at the back is on.
