Interested in hearing the result too - I was knocked out 24th or so when a feckin' two outer hit on the river to sink my dominating hand :( bah humbug. I did win a €200 cash spot prize earlier in the evening so all was not lost, plus the game itself was a lot of fun while I was there. €4000 for 1st in the freeroll would have been nice though.

    Dave Curtis, what a shocker!
There was a book running and no one even put a fiver on him.

The Eglinton 2007 Poker League Final took place last night (Thursday 20th Dec) in the casino. 50 of the top players in Galway fought it out for a guaranteed prizepool of €10,000.
Play kicked off at 7.30pm with every player having a stack according to their position in the league. Paul 'Mr. Fish' Joubi was the league winner and started off with 10,500 chips compared to Gabriel Hardimans 4,500 chips.
With beer half-gone before the clock had started, madness was going to be the word of the night. Action started off fast and steady and it wasn't long before we had our first casulty of the night. Sean 'Shades' Lally got his aces cracked and had an early departure. He wasn't long on his own as Robert Jordan, Joe O'Neill and Paul Watchorn quickly followed.
By the first break we had lost 14 players and we were down to 36. The Eglinton Casino added €1,000 to this tournament in the form of spot prizes. At the break players were given numbers on the roulette wheel and had three spins to try and win €200. Dave 'The Mouth' Curtis showed his lucky side early on and won the 1st €200. Vinny Gavin and Paul Burke took home €200 each from the next two sipns.
We were also giving out €100 for the last lady. Siobhan Blaney took this when Emer Conroy and Lorraine Lee had unlucky early departures.
As the night continued players got knocked out quickly and soon the sit & go's and cash games were filling up. As we neared the final table play tightened up and soon a deal was done so 10 would get paid.
Our final table was reached and consisted of:

    Seat 1 - Manus Burke, 12,500
    Seat 2 - Dave Curtis, 29,000
    Seat 3 - Jim Cloonan, 25,500
    Seat 4 - Vinny Gavin, 77,500
    Seat 5 - Karri Kaev, 17,000
    Seat 6 - Christy Morkan, 42,000
    Seat 7 - Dan Sheridan, 86,500
    Seat 8 - Jimmy Devaney, 24,000
    Seat 9 - Paul Joubi, 19,000
    Seat 10 - John Slater, 28,500

With the blinds at 1,500/3,000 the short-stacks didn't have a lot of time to wait. Action quickened pace again and Paul Joubi was the first out when Dan Sheridan called his all-in and won. Plenty of 'moves' were made and we were soon playing three-handed for the 1st prize of €4,000 and the trophy. Christy, John and Dave battled it out for a while before Dave took out Christy and went heads up with the chip lead. Shortly after John raised and was faced with an all-in reraise from Dave. After deliberating John felt he had committed himself and called. It was John's k4 against Dave's 99. No help came on the board and Dave took 1st place.
After a long night of gloating and a trophy full of beer Dave had proved himself as the best (or luckiest at least!) player in Galway.
But with a €10 unlimited rebuy about to start the main tournament was soon forgotten and the 'real' game was about to begin.

    1st - Dave Curtis, €4,000
    2nd - John Slater, €2,400
    3rd - Christy Morkan, €1,450
    4th - Karri Kaev, €850
    5th - Dan Sheridan, €500
    6th - Jimmy Devaney, €300
    7th - Vinny Gavin, €200
    8th - Jim Cloonan, €100
    9th - Manus Burke, €100
    10th - Paul Joubi, €100
