How much did you win this year?

Quite possibly a pointless poll as I'm not sure we'll get true answers, although with it being anonymous we may well do.

Based on the Poker Resolutions thread it seems a large number of posters believe they are going to make high 5 or even 6 figure sums from poker in the year to come. Is it really that easy? Is the average boards player really beating online/offline games & tournaments for that much money on an ongoing basis?

So how much profit did you actually make this year?

With the weak dollar I managed to scrape into the $500 - $999 category. Hooray! :D

I cant really ans this question as there's 12 days left in the year and it was one of my biggest winning periods last year.

    Also, thats a big jump from 10k to 100k about 20k to 50k 75k than 100k

Yeah that is a rather large gap between 10k and 100k which is where I am placed.

Bad year. Bad decisions, bad play, bad tendency to get utterly trashed and lose obscene amounts of money in homegames. Still in the second bracket though. If the poll was in euros I'd be in the third. Bad, bad year.

if the poll was in euro's id prob be in a different category too - very broad gap from 10k-100k

Yeah crazy broad gap tbh. think you should start this poll again with at least 2 if not 3 more categroies in between that gap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭HiCloy

There should also be more negative categories. Greater than -€100k anyone?!

    33k hands at 1/2 won $6,480k... didn't play between April-Oct.

trips to 2/4 and 3/6 hurt me a lot.... no more! 1/2 only 4 me:D

I'm not looking to find out exactly what people have won, just getting a straw poll for how many will win 5 or 6 figures this year. Whether that's $10k or $78.5K doesn't really matter to me.

The same thing with the losing more than $100, whether it's $1k or $10K is irrelevant, it just shows how many people are losing on average. Of course I expect the poll to be skewed as not everyone will be completely honest even though there have been some refreshingly honest answers so far.

Haven't played much this year, either on-line or live. On-line i haven't played much due to moving house and it taking 3 months to get broadband sorted but showing a profit of $200. Live - I moved to a job that has me up at 7 every morning so that curtailed my live poker. But 6 Ft's out of the 9 proper tournies I played means I'm showing a profit of around €400 live, so I suppose I can't complain for someone who still has an awful lot to learn and I'm still miles away from being an average player.

my profit for the year has me just shy of 10k and am hoping to get it up to over 10k by the end of the year but the way ive been playing and the fact im a micro limit player means i probably wont so i went for option below....

I just took up poker in August and quickly lost $700. I've gotten that back and am now hovering at +$1k. I play mostly STTs and MTTs on Partypoker and have never played a live game.

    Round about -20k$ I think.

As with all greedy poker players ( be honest it includes all of ye ) the answer would have to be....

    NOT ENOUGH:)

Can't answer until I'm sure I didn't withdraw money on my CC from the Fitz, last time I was in there.

Off my trolley and had empty wallet the following morning.

My memory of some hands I played is as follows

didnt play a huge amount this year, couldnt be arsed grinding out a bankroll to be honest. However ive found that im quite adept at spinning up small amounts at 1/2nl on ipoker, so i think im up about 10k dollars for the year and maybe 2000 euro live

I think you will probably get mostly true answers, the problem is though that the losing players are probably less likely to vote so that's why it might be inaccurate.

5 figure sums are very easy for someone who has been playing for many years, is a competent online poker player and puts in any sort of decent hours.

6 figure sums(especially if you include rakeback) I think are what a full-time online poker pro should be achieving.

Very badly designed poll. Why is there one answer to cover profits of 10k-99.9k ?

    I've already answered this above.

A poll is only badly designed if you don't get the information you're looking for, in my case I'm getting back the information I wanted. So I think it's designed pretty well.

and does it make up for all the losses got from previous years with travelling to touries and coming home with nothing .

i like to know if people take into account what they spend when they are away and would they be in the plus factor then after all the costs ?

I bet some tournie players don't even factor in the buyins and reg from their annual profit figures...! :) Remember this is a game that lends itself to self-delusion, I was talking to a chap at the Fitz EOM years ago who was convinced that the dinner provided at the break was so good that 'it really meant I'm only paying €150 or so to play'!

Nicky power would be the top earner in this category, always said he was a better jockey than a horse.

a lot of players dont take into account what they spend when they are away as they class it as a holiday as well .a lot of these players work as well and are not full time players .

when they make some money from touries they then call that profit .they use money they earn from work to go to these touries

yeh I'm only behind €43,000 on the year swapping %s . I do count %s swapped as reductions or profits when totting up.

On the expenses, should one include coke and hooker, might start a poll on this
