    Argh just before friggin' Christmas.

Tried to turn it on and it's just non-responsive, no power at all. Checked out a few things, and there's nothing wrong with the socket and there's nothing wrong with the plug itself.

I got it in Smiths, which I hear have them back in stock so I'm hoping I can get a replacement before Christmas, but what I'm worried about is all my VC games :( Anyone have any experience in this regard?

I've been keeping Metroid Prime and Mario Galaxy for Christmas as well

bummer! i haven heard of anyones Wii breaking yet.

how were u storing it? well ventilated? in a cabinet?

as regards the VC, i think ur buggered in that regard. if u send it off to nintendo, they might be able to help u out, but i doubt it.

This is the only thing I can think of that happened. If I'm being really honest, I don't think it is very well vented. The way my tv/consoles are set up, they are near enough to the radiator. That was never really a problem because I rarely turn the thing on, but since the start of winter it has been on a bit more alright. Must've over-heated :(

Goddamn I must get a few more 360 games or I'll have one boring Christmas.

I had to get my Wii replaced back in July but for a different reason - it was a graphics problem that caused pixels to appear on the screen. If you bring it back and get a replacement in the shop you will lose the VC content. If you send it back to Nintendo, which I ended up doing, when you get it back you will be able to redownload anything you have paid for. However, unless you back them up you will lose all your game saves. It was under two weeks from sending it to getting the replacement back (new machine too). If you know of anyone with a Wii it would be worth checking that it's not the power unit that's gone.

Last i heard, if enquire with Nintendo about a repair they can maintain your VC games if you pay a little fee.

If you get a replacement at Smyths you might be out of luck.

My power supply died a few months ago, brought it back to Smyths who told me they don't handle the repairs and won't exchange it, but to go to Nintendo with it. Explained the problem to them, sent of the power supply and got a new one a ew days later. Give someone else's power supply a try because it could well be as simple as that, and you won't have to send off the console itself at all...

I could be wrong, but I think when you buy VC games, you can always download them from Wii shop channel.

Remember, your club nintendo account is linked to your wii shop account and they havea record of what you downloaded. It should be no problem, but maybe ring Nintendo to be sure.

Your saved games will be gone though. Unles you send it to Nintendo.

Incidently, NoA do a shipped replacement offer, where you send the wii block and either they send you a new console or they repair your one. The latter is the only way you keep your saved games. I presume Nintendo Europe do the same.

Thanks everyone, but I'm so very very happy to update that my Wii came back to life! It's the strangest thing, I just decided to try again in a desperate state and it just came back to life. The heating hasn't been on for a few days, so I'm thinking maybe that was the problem and it wasn't vented enough, making it overheat. I've put it away from the heater now, nearer the window.

Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy tomorrow, woo :)
