Can CAT 5 networking cable be used as opposed to 4 or 6 core alarm cable?

What, if any, could the consequences be?

    Thanks in advance.

can't see an issue it's all doing the same job at the end of the day as long as you obviously keep the same pairs.

The solid variety tends to break easily compared to the stranded. It's also a lot thicker and harder to work with.

like stated previously its harder to work with in relation to wiring into sensors and juction boxes which are designed with alarm cable in mind
