I seem to have wiped my audio hardware somehow, no sound whatsoever and speakers not working- anytime I go to Control panel it says no audio device. Do I have to download new gear from disc or download off net?? Clueless when it comes to this!!

Try to reinstall the driver. Go to the computer manufacturers website and get it there (should be a support area where you can enter in the model number and bring up what you need) unless you already know the soundcard model.

Check your soundcard is being detected in the device manager, if it is a driver issue the device will show up as unknown otherwise the card may need replacing
