Looks like we don't get our Summer fix of The 4400 next year, kids.

I thought S3 was pretty weak, but S4 was a big improvement.
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- USA has pulled the plug on its original series "The 4400" after four seasons.

Series creator/executive producer Scott Peters confirmed the news in a posting to the USA Network forum yesterday:

"It's with great sadness that I pass along to you the information I've just received -- The 4400 has been cancelled. We've had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters. Thank you especially to the folks on the board here whose tireless devotion to the show is nothing short of remarkable. Shout out to Bubba, by the way! I love your posts, man.

I just spoke to Joel and we had a great talk about what we all accomplished and how much we'll miss our family that is our crew and our cast... and our fans. But at least we got to go out with a bang! I had an awesome time directing the last episode. I think I got to make almost every single cast member cry (on camera). How much fun was that?!

So let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end. Be well and on behalf of all of us at The 4400 -- thank you, it's been a pleasure."

Last week the studio ordered all sets, wardrobe and props to be sold off, an early indicator of the show's demise.

"4400" averaged 1,424,000 viewers in USA's target 25-54 demographic last summer, well shy of its other original series "The Starter Wife" (2,343,000), "Burn Notice" (2,334,000), "WWE Raw" (2,273,000), "Monk" (2,253,000) and "Psych" (2,197,000).

It did however rank above fellow Sunday entry "The Dead Zone" (1,385,000) which likewise is not expected to return.

Aww - sad news. I agree with Mr E that S3 was weak but S4 was a big improvement. I'm guessing the WGA strike is just giving networks extra impetus to cancel borderline shows. Shame, but at least S4 had a somewhat conclusive ending for the series.

Ah come on! Season 4 was much improved. I expected one more season from the 4400 and the dead zone just to wrap things up. After 4 seasons we don't get a proper ending? for either show? I hate that!

    Aw, RIP 4400.

I've only seen Season 1 and 2, I couldn't keep up with 3 when it was on tv so I decided to wait for the dvd.

I thought season 3 was the best of the lot, but it got tiresome during season 4. It had a decent enough life.

Just watched first 3 seasons on dvd, fantasic stuff, espically season 2. Any idea if and when they will release season 4?

    *bump*

Just wondering for those who saw Season 4, did they manage to wrap up the story before it got cancelled? I'm finally starting to catch up (got around to getting Season 3) but I'd just like to know in (in as much of a spoiler-free way as possible) if the story gets wrapped up in the end or if things are left in the air.

Yeah it was a solid ending (no cliff hanger) and a good conclusion to the season, but there was alot more story to tell.

Cheers, that sounds satisfactory enough. Pity it got cancelled, it'd be great if it got picked up for a tv movie or something for the story to finish properly.

Well not really!!! I suppose in a way the ending could allow for one to assume what happens next, but there were other things as well.
The most obvious one would be if Tom takes the shot or not. How the prophecy plays out is something I wanted to see, especially now that pretty much all of Seattle have 4400 abilities, inlcuding several of NTAC.

Personally I was not happy with that ending, after so many years it deserved a proper ending, especially since in its first few seasons it kept that network afloat,as did the Dead Zone, which didn't get an ending either.

The 4400 kinda fizzled out towards the end, for me anyway.

I try not to get interested in any US series now, due to the habitual plug-pulling that goes on when the ratings take a dive in the US.

It amuses me, however, when you know that a programme has been cancelled, and how the networks here don't actually say so, even when the last programme has aired.

When Journeyman ended a couple of nights ago, the Sky announcer said, "Well that's the season finale blah blah". Everybody knew the plug had been pulled and Sky said nothing.

A couple of years ago, TV3 showed a Sci-fi series "Harsh Realm". Years before it was aired, it had been scrapped, with only 9 episodes produced for the first series. They knew that there were no more episodes and they still bought it, no doubt for a song. As the credits rolled at the end of episode 9 on TV3, the announcer said "Well, that's all from Harsh Realm, for now".

I thought - yeh, whadya mean "For Now" - more like "Forever!"

saw all 4 seasons of it.
It wasn't that great tbh, so I won't really miss it. but yeah would have been nice if they had another season instead of leaving plot threads hanging...

Yeah I thought it was pretty good. Really pissed with the ending, it really did need a 5th season.

    Not too bothered.

The show never really grabbed me as much as it did others.. and really lost interest near the start of this season.

No great loss in my mind.. always found the writing dull, acting weak and characters were 1 dimensional and unlikeable!
