this year, I worked in ireland from January to April, then moved to the Uk and worked there from April to October.

Im going to claim back the tax from the UK which is £700, will i have to pay some of this to the Revenue? If i dont will they come knocking?

Would i be better not claiming that back from the UK? I paid full tax in the 3months I worked ireland and havent looked for a refund yet. I dont reall know what I meant to pay to who or what my entitlements are, anyone able to shed some light?

They will add your irish and uk income and calculate your tax based on the total. The £700 will be offset against your total libility along with any irish tax you would have paid.

I was just about to claim my taxback from the Uk. if i leave do they sort it out between themselves, or am i better of cliaming the taxback from the Uk and waiting for the revenue to get onto me?

I was just gonna claim back fromt he UK and leave it resting into my account until they get onto me.

whoa- do you really think the Irish and UK Revenue are that organised or even bother working out your tax? It's a self assessment system, the obligation is on YOU not them. They'll keep it and tough titty ca-ca to you mate. Similarily the Irish Revenue aren't going to come knocking for your 700 bucks.

You have a number of Irish tax cedits which for 2007 are (presuming you aren't married)

    Single Person 1760
    PAYE 1760

There are number of others like the rent credit, medical credit, service credit etc. Normally these are spread over the year, but in situations where you don't work or are working abroad you can go back and the end of the year and off set unused credits against tax paid. So basically the fact that you only worked in Ireland for a few months means you should go back at the end of the year and see if you entitled to a refund of some Irish PAYE.

Now I don't know if you worked in Ireland when you came back from the UK but I presume so.

Technically the UK tax refund is not a source of Income. You paid it over and got it back so you don't have to disclose it to the Irish revenue.

so in short- keep the 700, and have a look to see if you can offset unused credits against Irish PAYE paid. (you can see this from your p60)
