Hi. Ive been looking for work here in cork city for four months now. Not looking for anything fancy, id consider anything with no experience required or training provided. I'm not sure why i don't have a job yet, maybe i don't come across over confident, but when you spend a hole day looking for work, and basically be told to "f**k off" by the "friendly" customer service staff its a bit dis-hearting :( I have five years if bar work experience (im 20 :O) but would prefer not to do this work again. Basically if anyone is hiring or knows somewhere that is a PM would be much appreciated.

    Sorry for the rant :P

    Regards
    Red

Lots and lots and lots of jobs in Cork here :

    http://jobs.ie/cork_jobs.aspx

Just avoid the group of four ads from the 'Not Disclosed' company. That's Gallop/<removed> Marketing, biggest scam on earth going there!

It's a bit of a needle in a haystack situation. If you don't want to do bar work then what WOULD you like to do? Work as a waiter? Sales assistant? What are your interests? Have you completed any courses?
You've given very little to go on. And if your CV is as vague as that... well, no wonder. I'm not trying to be nasty to you, just giving advice.

Why not post up you CV? (leave out your personal details) And look up the Fás website too.

Do you play World of Warcraft at all?

What kind of work are you looking for?

Factory type work, then try TRIL.

Temp office work, try La Creme.

I got jobs through both those agencies a few years back.

I'd Prefer to stay away from barwork and waitering.

Sorry for not being specific. Sales assistant, security, factory work.... i would try pretty much any job available really.

My interests are computers, poker and video games :/

Courses wise ive done ECDL and 2 years of a computer games development course, so not much to go on.

Here is my pc, feel free to give me your opinions, criticism or not i still appreciate the help.
I usually go to the fas office once or twice a week.

Thanks, will do. I wouldn't need qualifications for the temp office work ?

No quals required. They will get you to take some typing, Word and Excel tests so they can get a feel for your ability.

I temped for 10 months with them a while back, while job hunting for full-time employment. I really couldn't say a word against them.

Is Blizzard Entertainment still looking for Staff?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 102 ✭✭RedXIII

I had an interview with blizzard, and recieved an email saying they will contact me in January of Febuary to continue my application as they are fully staffed atm, with openings in those months. I probabally had the live interview while they were fully staffed, because i was told there were no opening til' January, but still this could be a nice way of saying "no" , which is fair enough :P

That's a pretty good CV, but reverse your job history - i.e. put the most recent one on top and work backwards from there. Probably too late to apply to games shops, HMV, Virgin etc - they'll have their Christmas staff at this stage.
    What about Apple Computers?

OK will do , appreciate advice. Yup too late, tried them all. Apple Computers, didn't know they had a place in cork. Is it an Apple store or tech support.

    Cheers

You got further than me so :D
I know that they were only hiring something like 50 staff upon opening but planned to expand after the new year so you may still be in luck there.

I know Starwood's call center on Mccuirtain street is always hiring.
    http://www.recruitireland.com/job/?jobID=3822574&num=25&Company=STARWOOD+HOTELS+AND+RESORTS+WORLDWIDE

Starting salary is only 18k but its something and easy to advance in the company.

Im working there myself at the moment so if you think its something you might be interested in or have any questions PM me!

    From Apple's website:
You'll find Apple's European Operations Headquarters in the beautiful, verdant city of Cork, Ireland. The campus hosts a range of divisions including European Telesales, European Apple Store Support, Manufacturing, AppleCare, European Technical Support, Finance, Operations, Information Services and Technology, and Human Resources. These divisions employ a great diversity of people with the ability to support customers from many different countries in their native languages.

The campus consists of two buildings joined by reception and meeting areas. In addition to serving excellent food, the cafeteria also features lovely views of the Irish countryside. A well-equipped gym and sports hall onsite house a range of sporting activities, including the ever-popular game of indoor soccer.
Building looks fab - it's in Hollyhill on the northside. You take the number 2 bus to get there.

    More CV advice:
Junior Certificate Passed - leave out. Once you have your leaving, your junior cert becomes irrelevant

Leaving Certificate Received 440 points - leave out - those points are so high they'll wonder why you aren't in college

    Subject Level Grade
    English Higher B3
    Maths Ordinary A1
    Construction Studies Higher A2
    Geography Higher B1
    Physics Ordinary A1
    Links Module Common Distinction
    Irish Ordinary C2
    Spanish Ordinary C3

Maybe just mention subjects that are relevant to each job you're applying for. Be prepared to tailor your CV - don't just go for the "one-size-fits-all" approach and submit the same one everywhere

Also Completed the ECDL course while attending school

Third Level Education Carlow IT, Carlow Town, Co. Carlow

Completed 2 Years of a (4 Year Higher - leave out) Bsc in Computer Games Development

Left course as it did not meet my expectations

    Year 1 Subjects - Applied Maths, Programming (C & C++), Computer Graphics,
    Computer Architecture, Computer Games
Recived Between 60% - 85% in exams - leave out - they might view your decision to leave as an unwise one when you did so well. And again, maybe just include the college modules that are relevant to each job

Year 2 Subjects - Applied Physics, Games Engineering, Data Structures and
    Databases,
    HCI, Computer Graphics 2, Programming

De-Registered from course 2 months before completion - leave out. No need to mention this.

None of my comments are a go at you, I'm simply bearing in mind what employers might think.
