If i create playlists on an external hd for music and videos on it and plug it into the 360 will it be able to them? Its bloody annoying the way it wont let you create a playlist for content not on the 360's hd.

I want to know something similar, so I'm hijacking you're thread :)

Does the XBOX360 play .avi movies if they are on the hard drive?

I asked that before about the .avi movies and didn't get a response.
Let's see how this plays out.

I played .avi's from my i-Audio X5 this morning, Xbox sees it as a USB device. Haven't tried playing anything DVD-quality off my powered 250GB external HD yet, probably won't get the chance till late tomorrow.

When you go into Videos on the Dashboard, you might need to Change Source Device (sp) from the Xbox's HD to the external drive with the x-button.

Not sure about playlists on an external HD, but when you play music directly from your computer, using media sharing, you can use playlists

hijacking is more than welcome given the rather underwhelming response i was getting!

Brianb8802 is that using WMP\windows media pc or will it work with something like TwonkyMedia?

True. I spent a full day  moving everything on my external HD between two laptops and the mp3 player so I wouldn't lose anything reformatting from NTFS. FFS!
