    Hey,

I'm curious how fast the prices are dropping in the HDTV market.

At the moment you can get a 26 inch 720P HDTV for in and around the 600 euro mark.

Is there any way of predicting how fast these will prices will drop even further? Will 2008 see them continuing to fall?

    Thanks

The reason the prices have dropped suddenly is because there is a new wave of 1080p screens on the market now. For the past year only Sony did 1080p screens and they were expensive, now all the major brands are doing them and they are trying to clear the old generation of 720p/1080i screens. Since 1080p is the true current HD standard.

Take a look at komplet.ie their prices are much cheaper than the shops and only €13 delivery.

I got a Samsung 26'' 720p/1080i two years ago for €1099, its a great screen and I intend on getting another now that the prices have dropped and the quality has gone up.

IIRC, for TVs over 32 inches the delivery cost increases substantially.

I dont know about Ireland, but a 42" LCD 1080p has dropped in price by around 700 euro to 1600 euro in the last 8 months in australia

The technology for both common types of flatscreen ( Plasma and LCD ) is stabilising though I wouldnt stray too far from the main brands at the moment.
As a result , prices are in freefall , and that will likely continue for a while.
Prices have fallen approx 50% in the last 18 months.

Dont imagine for a moment though that 1080p is the peak of the technology , its far from it , and this time next year you'll probably see TV's at double the resolution and 1080ps will be selling for the same as 720p's are now.
