Killing a Pig

    I was just told of my dad's Christmas plans it involves a homemade mechanical spit, and a whole pig. Sounds cool and all but then he tells me I have to hold it down while he slits its throat. I think its just him kiddin then his gf confrims it, then I try to discuss other options. At this point the pig is alive and it will be kill which is the order of things (somewhat) but what I want to know what is the most humane way to kill the animal so it doesnt freak out or get stressed.
    Quite a bizzare one I know but it would put my mind at ease.

    well the normal way to kill a pig is to hang him up by his legs and then slit his throat, i doubt you will be able to hold it down while he slits its throat, a pig is a strong animal, so u defo need to hang it up or find another way.

    Isn't it illegal to slaughter an animal yourself nowadays anyway? (not saying that'd stop him mind).

    Even in the old days you didn't "hold down" the pig anyway, it's needlessly stressful/amateurish, especially if one of the slaughtermen (using that term loosely) has never done it before.

    OP - I've reported this post as the slaughter of an animal by unqualified people is an offence (with the exception of game). You shouldn't be looking for advice on how to kill an animal in PI. Get you father to talk to a butcher.
