DVB-C PCI card issue

I've just bought and set up a new DVB-C PCI card to use with NTL in Dublin. But the card can't pick up a signal from the cable (which works perfectly with the STB)

Does anyone know if the STB has any additional hardware that would come with a card ?

NTL's cable signal is encrypted and so a DVB-C card is of no use. If you want to record TV from your cable service, you'll need to capture the output of the box using a TV card instead.

AFAIK the signal should be decoded by the CAM interface (which contains the NTL subs card), which should cover the encryption that NTL uses.

Although it would explain which it's not picking up any signal.

Is it not just against the T&C?

I believe that you may not connect your 'own' gear to the cable , it must be NTLs in this case . Bit like you 'had' to rent a phone till the 1980s .

    There are two separate issues:
    1) Using the DVB-c card is against T&C

    2) The onus would be on you to prove you didn't use it for Cable "theft of Service" a criminal offence. They won't believe you.

    So you can't use a DVB-c card.

I've found that Dunne's Plustron / Beond 98 Euro DVD recorder works better than S-VHS on Shy Pay-TV channels. Should be fine on any non-Macrovision content on NTL set box.

In Ireland you can use a PCI card for Terrestrial or Satellite. Not Cable.
