Nike used to make the Ireland rugby shirt a few years back.

And the English, French and SA for the last few years. SA have moved on but Nike will be back again.

The Nike jersey's are horrible for supporters...Canterbury & Adidas are much better

At the moment all Nike have is England and France. I prefer Cantebury to Nile much more comfort

Is it just me or do Nike jerseys seem to get torn apart more often in matches compared to the other brands.

That was, afaik, the original brand of skin-tight jersey, basically made from lycra. The newer ones are much tougher. A mate of mine has 1 of the proper match ones he swapped at an u-19 world cup and its amazing to wear. Makes you feel solid. The material is kinda bordering on a cross between neoprene and lycra. Not quite neoprene but really tough, thick and stretchy and solid, and presumably breathable.
If i was a player i'd have no problem wearing these ones.

Adidas only have 4 major rugby contracts don't they ? The Chokers, Munster, Argentina and the Lions. I know they used to do Bath but think they've gone to Kooga now and can't think of any other club that wear Adidas (I remember NZ super 14s used to but they've gone back to Canterbury now haven't they).

When Nike did the Ireland jersey back in the day, that was all they did for fans...just a jersey. No t-shirts or sweatshirts etc and the IRFU didn't appreciate all the merchandise money they were losing out on.

I've some of the old Nike Player Issue stuff through a family member and it's fairly lightweight and shoddy....only decent piece of kit was a t-shirt that was quite heavy !

I'm not sure when the Irish contract with Canterbury is up for renewal but I've a bad feeling that the IRFU will change to another brand to get all those percentages of new jersey sales to help pay off Lansdowne

The NZ teams are still adidas. The contract covers all of professional NZ rugby. the stormers and the cheetahs and western province in South Africa are adidas too. Newcastle are also adidas. Many of the (lower) teams in the New Zealand provincial championship are also adidas and the brand is generally widespread there even extending to many club sides.

Slightly off point but is it me or is it near impossible to get your hands on a short sleave Toulouse jersey? I've been after the white/pink away jersey for the past few seasons and haven't been able to get my hands on one...even after a trip to Toulouse last year!

If anyone knows of any good online rugby stores that might sell one please let me know!

I don't know if GO Sport (a French chain) have an online store, and I'm too lazy tonight to check, but I saw short sleeved pink(ish) Toulouse jerseys in their store in Nice a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, they're not fantastic quality.

Picked up some Stade Francais stuff while I was there.

Not sure if this is true or not but I heard years ago that the IRFU backed out of Nike after the ethical controversy that surrounded Nikes maunfacturers, the situation therein doesnt seem to have changed that much. They do have the worst case of corporate responsibility as a company Ive ever seen- not something that large organisations with a large public support want to be associated with.

eBay is the only place I could find it (same seller has L XL & XXL).

The pink short sleeve version seems to be only available in the tight player fit....do you really want a tight pink jersey, even if it is toulouse ?

The IRFU's ethics extended as far as dropping Nike because Canterbury were giving them more money for the shirt contract which eased the IRFUs conscience about how little the people in the Canterbury factorys in China get paid !!

There are rumours that the IRFU won't be renewing their deal with Canterbury in 2 years time. Nike or Adidas are the favourites, but it would be great (though unlikely) if Rugbytech got it. Canterbury have lost a few teams over the past year.

lets be honest. rugbytech are pure ****e. absolute backwater brand and we wouldnt want rugby in this country fronted by a second rate brand, despite our recent second rate performances.

Have to totally Disagree. just got a Rugbytech London Irish home shirt. First one I've bought...top quality, easily as good as anything canterbury/adidas produce (and I've got dozens).

The current Canterbury Irish shirt is absolutely appalling, an eyesore. just glad I managed to swap mine for an Argentinian one after the Paris debacle....Won't buy another..oh an its also the wrong colour, as I've said before Irish rugby shirts should not be British racing green...absurd...

Rugbytech haven't gotten any international squads yet and without that they won't have the money the IRFU will want for the shirt deal. (they could produce the crappest quality shirts in the world but if they have enough money then the iRFU will take it)

If Canterbury lose it then Adidas will probably go for it seeing as they already have the munster contract (and seem to be doing s good job with it judging by the range they've produced for fans).

[EDIT] Just remembered that Kooga have a few international contracts (Fiji, US, Canada, Tonga, Samoa) so maybe they might make a play for the Ireland jersey !

Ya, it would be terrible if the Irish team, wore shirts made by an Irish company.

Hear hear, makes much more sense to source them form new Zealand....me hole! and as I've said before, quality excellent, just check out the london irish strip....

In much the same way as the ABs wear jerseys made by a New Zealand company

It doesn't matter a jot who the jersey is made by provided the quality is up to scratch. The LI jersey is nice, well made and very comfortable.

To use EO'S's turn of phrase... The current jersey is just a blip. Surely Canterbury can't come up with anything worse.

Maybe the IRFU should follow the example being set by a lot of clubs in Ireland and get OB Sports to make the next line of jerseys.

I knew someone would bring this up. If the NZRFU want to partner with a German company it's their business. It doesn't mean we should all follow suit. Why not aspire to promote your own countries goods?

edit. I know one kiwi who believe's that the Adidas deal is a source of bad luck. I believe they're just chokers though.
