Hey, hope this is the correct forum.

Family member has just passed driving test! Great stuff! Except, the L plates (just ordinary €2 ones) are proving VERY difficult to remove. AS IN, tried scraping them off, picking them off, etc. etc.

Anybody got any magical recipe to remove them safely without damage to windscreen. They are on the inside! Jeez, they must have super glue as the adhesive!

    Thanks in advance.

    soap?
    Failing that... steam it off.

Be careful not to damage the windscreen trying to "scrape" them off, i'd get warm water and soap and rub it with a cloth. It could be the cold that's making them so difficult to take off?

Thanks for the quick replies. Yea, could be the cold weather. We tried soap and no joy. Will try steam as well.

Isn't typical, when you don't NEED the L-Plates, they are still haunting you!

Leave the engine running with the heat on full for a few minutes to heat the glass/L plate.

Use a hairdryer to melt the glue first and take off the sticker part. Then if there is any glue left that won't come off easy a dab of white spirits or petrol should remove it no problem. Don't let the solvents on you skin or the paint though!

Thanks for those tips (two last posts).

Yea, I thought about the white spirits - the hairdryer is a good one too.

If all that fails get some Label Off 50 from a paint shop, it's a spray-on solvent for all types of adhesive and paper stickers. Takes a little while to work.
Your L plates' adhesive has reacted with sunlight to turn it the way it is....melting the glue/adhesive with heat won't really work as it is mostly dried away by now.
If you can't get the aerosol then softening sticker with very hot water on a sponge and a glass scraper (with a new blade! carefully!) should work....might take a while and if the windscreen has a curve it may be tricky.

you could also try some acetone based nail polish remover, Ive found that to be good for removing glue at times.. I wouldn't let any get on the paintwork though...
