Money spent on drink?

How much roughly do you spend on alcohol a month? I've worked out that over the last 6-7 months I've spent around 3k on it (that includes everything, from taxi's, to clubs, feeds after etc). Is that the norm or is it a bit high? Works out at roughly over 400 a month...

I spent about €40 or so on drink per month these days, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Not arsed with the whole going clubbing thing anymore really, prefer to sit in and have a few quiet ones.

€20 a week at the moment coz i havent been out in ages

but a night out would be €150ish

Both answers were not what I wanted to hear, haha. Just trying to gauge what the 'norm' is for those that go out that often. I'm getting worried here.

i'd usually spend about 80 on a night out. So say roughly 250 per month! kinda adds up when you do think about it. Scary thought.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

    Very much situational dependent.
I used to spend a fcking disgraceful amount on nights out, I did enjoy it, but I was earning good money with no outgoings so spending it meant little or nothing to me.

Now I've rent, bills, petrol to pay etc. so don't go on mad nights out blowing loads of money. I've been saving money for a trip to NY coming up in two weeks, I'm sure I'll absolutely spew cash over there but that'll be it for a few months. Nights out just aren't worth the money spent on them anymore.

    Far too much.

Yeah, it all depends, I used to spend about €250 a week, so like a grand a month, sometimes more, then I cut back, I'd say about €100-€120 a week now....

Depending on the person of course, but yeah, I'd say that's pretty average expenditure on alcohol... well for someone in their late-teens/early-mid-twenties anyway....

    Right?

    Right?
Are you single and living at home?

Or are you just earning an unreal amount of money?

I rarely go to the pub these days. It's just too expensive.
I spent about €80 on Friday night.

The off licence across the road is selling 24 cans of Bud for €28, so I picked up a couple of them on Friday. I still have about 10 left.

Generally I would spend about €250 a month. More if I go to the pub.

    Yup, early twenties.

Stepbar - You spend far too much?

Wow... I'd love to know how people afford it in their late teens/early twenties if that is the average.

    Oh, right.
No. I meant to say that I have 10 left from one of the packs.
The other one hasn't been opened.

Id spend on average €500 a month on it.

    i was wondering.

    Still, 9 cans a day..

I'd usually spend €80-€100ish on a night out, but I have no life so they're fairly rare these days...

was over in London recently and I managed to spend around £150 on Friday and Saturday night, I even ran out of money on the Friday night and ended up using my credit card to order drinks:p
    5-6am closing time = trouble

    And it's a girl apparently.

There's something wrong with a girl spending €250 a week on drink and I don't mean that "Oh are no lads buying them for them", I mean the average girl gets drunk much, much quicker than guys so would presumably be drinking a bit less/lighter drinks, so €250 is a massive amount.

Some of the "lighter" drinks can be more expensive though :)

    It can easily be done.

Like I said, I spent €80 on Friday night and that was just staying local.
No cabs and no niteclub entry.
That was just on beer though (damn rounds).

Throw the price of a few fat frogs or whatever it is the kids are drinking these days and you won't be long saying goodbye to your money.

about 50 quid or so. pub drinking is way way to expensive. went to fibbers on friday and i was broke by about 12!

monthly average is about 150 or so. (i'm 20 btw)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭estariol

Wow when you really break it down and think about it, well fridays about 80, saturdays about 100.......then there's either a champions leage game or trip to cinema during the week with a few after! about 40-50......
And then a few at home drinks/night caps during the week.....damn that's about 300 a week!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

I'd spend about €60 - €70 on a night out. I don't go out drinking often though. Maybe a few times a month max. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 317 ✭✭stratospheres

Don't drink much or often so...
I'd spend about 50 on a night out into town, including drinks, entry fees, taxi home!
I'd have maybe one or 2 nights out a month and that's it!
Just not worth it imo (I'm only 19) and I've already gotten kinda sick of the whole scene...

Indeed, but that works out as roughly 14-16 pints depending on the place, and I certainly couldn't see any woman downing 14-16 drinks of anything alcoholic and walking afterwards!

We'll need more feedback from the poster on this, if it was perhaps 2 nights per week with an average spend of €125, you're talking €10-15 for a taxi depending on where you're coming from, probably less though as when you're heading out you're usually in a group so this would reduce the cost, then another €10-€15 for nightclub entry so that'd cut it to somewhere between €95-€105 purely spent on alcohol.
"Alcopops" usually work out somewhere between €5.50-€6 afaik, so that'd mean consuming 15-17 of them in one night! So she would have to have been stumbling disaster after that!

As I said though, would need more details, just really guessing there so could be wrong.

Ive been pissing away money since I started back college in September. Not on alcohol alone but equipment, food, commuting etc. Havent been out here in about 6-7 weeks and its great the amount of money Ive saved. Also, I hate going out around here - always the same same places & faces and I hate it. Much prefer to have one or two mates and a few drinks in the house, or else head out for a quiet couple of pints during the week.

Christ I sound like an 'oul fella here and Im only 19.

Will be out during the week though for college crimbo drinks and Im sure Ill be spending a bit then...

This month I have spent about 20 euro so far. Not bothered about the pub recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,165 ✭✭✭DEmeant0r

I used to go out twice a week, that was a year or so ago. I used to spend €40-€70/night so that was €80-€140/week or €240-€560/month.

But now I'm in Final year, I only get to go out once a week max, so that's €50-€70/week or €200-€280/month.

Went out at half 9 last night with 70 quid. I walked into town. Didn't take too long to run out of money. Got another €50 out of the atm. Spent a tenner on a taxi and about €7 on food and have a tenner left. I also had 3 bottles before leaving the house.

Yes but what do you do when you get drunk? Keep drinking. Well me anyway.

I've only just started college and started to really manage my own money and I was slightly distraught when I took a step back and realised that I'd spent €800 on nights out in 2 months... I was worried that I was overspending, but this thread has reassured me that I'm not alone.

Still, it's not really a nice feeling when you realise how much money you've píssed away on nights out, many of which aren't all that fun anyway.

I generally spend around €50 on nights out, and I go out 1 or 2 nights a week. I can manage to have a really good night for about €30, but it requires discipline and planning ahead.

if i was to give it a good lash, 3 or 4 days on the trot, it can be about 300 a week. but recently i stayed off it for a few weeks and what did i save?? fuuck all. i did get some debts cleared though. and tonight i spent about 17 yoyo on a shoulder of uisce beatha, some brown sugar, cloves and a couple of lemons. hot whiskeys for me tonight. and cheese

since i began saving to go traveling i'm only spending about 20-30 a week if even. but i'm still going out 2-3 times a week. i'll buy a tray which will last me around 2 weeks. and i buy cheap vodka in lidl. 6 cans and a few shots of vodka before i head out and thats me for the night. don't spend a penny in the pubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 773 ✭✭✭echosound

What kind of income do people have that they can drop 300 odd a week on going out? Rent/mortgage/bills/cars/groceries etc must be supercheap where ever they're living, or else they're earning a wage on a par with Bertie.
Fair play to ye is all I can say, only wish I had that kind of weekly disposable income to faff about with.

Current spend for me would be about 20-30 quid a week, I spent most of my youth and early 20s in pubs (when drink was still reasonably cheap) but got tired of that scene, so now it's a few drinks at home or with friends at their house. Not too bad I guess from someone who would have had no problem downing a bottle of whiskey a night in my heyday, now it's a bottle a week or a pack of 24 bottles of longneck beer. God I'm either getting old or sensible, and I doubt it's the latter.

And let me guess, the beer is probably better in comparison to the piss people buy here?(Miller being a prime example)

Well, the beer here actually has a taste, in comparison with the likes of Miller etc which IMO is beer flavoured fizzy water. If you go to the cheap supermarket you can get a crate for e2.40! Anyway...still not a good enough reason to move here...trust me!
