"once" is enough

I watched “once” last night. I fail to see what all the fuss is about, painfully slow, drab music, grainy shots.

Glen Hansard moping around the town moaning about his ex.

    What think ye?

Thought it was wonderful. It's a welcome change to all the terrible romantic comedies, this definitely doesn't fall into that cesspit of a genre. It's probably the only film I've seen that gives a realistic representation of a relationship and has the balls not to end it in a cliche way. Loved the soundtrack as well.

To be honest, I thought it was the best film I had seen in quite a while. Its a film that perfects simplicity. Story is sublime, characters realistic, soundtrack terrific (and wonderfully suited to the action), and a stunningly muted ending which left me moved for quite a while after leaving the theatre. Not even that twat Glen Hansard can destroy the charm, which I think says it all.

have to agree. i thought it was a really cute film, and a nice change from the hollywood blockbusters

loved the music too, especially the "i dont know you but i want you all the more for that" song

This film almost has everything going against it. I'm a fan of The Frames and Hansard but I had this terrible feeling that once would be just cringy.

But after going to see it I absolutely loved it. It really captures what love and life is like for most of us.

Once won an award at Sundance and did very well at the American Box Office but was not good enough to even receive a Best Picture nomination at this year's Irish Film and Television Academy awards?

I liked the film a lot but I didn't think the music was as strong as it could have been. A couple of the songs were good but a lot were just dull. Still a nice story though.

hated this movie with a passion. Don't get me wrong, I like the odd romance movie, even the odd musical  but there was nothing about this movie I could stand. I personally thought Glens acting was the worst part, I was constantly aware he was acting, and the leading lady acted like she was always waiting for her cue.

Plus the draaaaawn out drab music scenes killed something inside me.

    My synopsis of the movie:

"so hey you play music right; yeah wanna hear? *5 minute musical interlude* so yeah want to go on a date to a music store; sure while we're here lets play some music *5 minute musical interlude* so I have this tape wanna listen... etc... non conformist ending, the end"
