Washed out colours on Flickr

When uploading photos to my Flickr account the colour in the photos seems to be washed out a lot and not as rich when viewing in Lightroom or Photoshop. Does anyone have the same problem or is it something I'm doing wrong. Here's an example of a pic where the berries are completely drained of colour.

Its more than likely a colour space problem. I'm guessing your camera is set to AdobeRGB colourspace (this is recommended as there is a larger gamut of colours available....so more info in your image). The web cannot display the full gamut of colours from ARGB as they don't have the gamut range. You'll have to convert your images to sRGB colourspace which has a smaller gamut and is what the web would use. This should sort out the problem of your colours looking drab on the web I hope?!

EDIT: In CS2 go to EDIT>COLOUR SETTINGS and a pop up box should appear. choose sRGB to convert them before you save them to jpeg for uploading.

Would that not just make them look drab online and offline as well!?

No. The extra colours in those other profiles are typically beyond the display range of most software and display setups, unless you either enjoy reviewing your photos in Photoshop or want to drop a few thousand euros on an excellent, calibrated setup.

It shouldn't AFAIK. The drapness comes form flickr or your browser trying to read the ARGB image as an sRGB image. Conversion in photoshop translates from one colourspace into another preserving colous more faithfully.

I experienced the same problem, its really down to the viewer and in flickr's case its Internet explorer. Some image viewing applications are non-profile aware (including Internet Explorer) and these assume all images are in sRGB. As I wasn't embeding a colour profile and had worked under a different profile they were displaying differently. All my images had "Color Space" = Uncalibrated in the properties on flickr.

To embed a colour profile in CS2 I went to Edit, Convert to Profile and selected "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" before saving the image as a JPG. The Color Space now says sRGB on flickr.

Its possible to set this profile as the default for CS2 but Adobe RGB is recommended as its got a wider range of colours and prints better.
