    Hi guys and gals,

Me and my mate are looking to some form of MMA / kickboxing in the new year and were wondering where we could do this.

We are both 24 and in good shape but have done no sort of martial arts before!

    Cheers!

There's actually a tonne of places to train, so you should give a bit of detail about where in the city would suit you most.

There's Spartan and Two Kings (sorry couldn't find a link) in Tallaght. There's Kokoro MMA on the Richmond Rd (in Drumcondra, I think, is that right?). KO Martial Arts (Glasnevin).

I'm forgetting tonnes, like. Let us know where would suit you most and someone with a bit more cop on than me will let you know your options.

Go on youtube and type in muay thai or thaiboxing...

If you like what you see the get your ass to

    www.Bridgestonemuaythai.com

thanks lads, we are both living in Crumlin so southside would suit us best but the quality of the training would be the number one priority. Have seen Thai boxing before and know a guy who was very good at it but just think it is suited to smaller people than myself and i wouldn't be looking to lose weight either.

Im 6 foot 2 and 86kg at the moment

(just looked at the bridgestone site and the guy i know's picture is actually on the front of the website!)

don't worry you'll get good training in either spartanmma.com, threecastlesmma.com or sbgireland.com all good clubs . Look on their websites and see which one tickles your interest.

I don't know what you mean by saying you're too big for Muay Thai but if you're just as much interested in "kickboxing" as you are in MMA you should not over look bridgestone as it a great gym to learn to thai box.

Your best bet is to try the above clubs anyway and see how you get on.

Fair enough lads, i was just under the impression that 6 foot 2 would be a bit big and arkward for Muay Thai or Thai boxing.

I know Andrew Keegan, went to school with him Red Raven.

At the moment i am 6 foot 2 and 87kg or round 13.5 stone as previously said and what i want to do is tone up, get rid of the belly fat and put on a bit of muscle and go over the 14 or up to 15 stone mark but i also want to do a martial art and one that would facilitate this. I had been under the impression that most Thai boxers were small or quite thin

superdub, iam 6'2" weigh 104kg and do a bit Thai with no probs, being tall in thaiboxing is a natural advantage

Lean is probably a better word than thin. I'm thin (and lean), weighing around 62KG now at 5'8". There are quite a few lads in the club that are muscular though. It's a choice you make really....Since both fighters are at the same weight, you trade muscle for height.

size is not the problem as long as you want to train. If you are interested in kickboxing , Thai or Sanda would be good choices. Redraven seems to know a lot about Thai, I think you should try his club. I teach sanda, but I am in simithfield. In relation to build muscle, I am sure you will improve your muscle leanness, but to build bigger you have to do resistance training. Good luck
