Can I copy from an External hard drive to my PS3 via USB? I plug it in and nothing happens. Should I go to a menu list?

How is it formatted? PS3 can only read FAT32 partitions.

Wasnt there something about the folders having to be named something in particular, or am I mixing it up with somethign else?

One other thing, do you know any program that will format a drive to FAT32 in vista? AFAIK vista (and xp, I have xp on a pc downstairs) wont format ib FAT32 , or at least the windows formating tools wont do it.

Not sure how it is formatted. It was just out the box plug in job I never done anything to change the settings. Formatting after the Hard drive is in use will cause data loss wont it. Unless I partition a section for this. And yes it is plugged in first thing I check.

You can format up to 2TB as FAT32, but you just need to use a third party program.
Unfortunately I'm not too sure which programs will work, but I'd assume partition magic does the job

Just open my computer and right click on the drive + choose properties, if you're using xp or vista, this screen should tell you if it's formatted as FAT32 or NTFS.
Unfortunately there's no way to convert from NTFS to FAT32, so you'd have to wipe it completely and start again.

vista let's you format in fat32 give the option.

also if you got it for the ps3, it's no use if it can't work with the ps3 if there file on it or not.

wipe it by formatting it to fat 32 put every thing back on,

    followd by years of fun

Disk management in Vista wouldn't even let me put a 100GB FAT32 partition on my 500GB external drive when I wiped it, so I just stuck with NTFS.
Think I'll get myself a WD Passport and reformat that using partition magic... presuming the video playback on the PS3 is decent...

Video playback is great. I have it projecting onto a 100 inch wall and it's great, once you feed it the right format/quality files!
