Messageboard bullying

Bullies are part of the playground of life, whether they confront you face-to-face, or cowardly hide behind the anonymity of the net. You deal with it, cause it's part of growing up. Only happened once to me on boards.ie, which is pretty good methinks.

"pointing out that they're an idiot" = justifying with examples, not just dominating by noisy put-downs. Try it sometime instead of the usual unsubstantiated ranting. Just because several people agree on a topic does not mean they're herding. It means they have the same opinion.

Of course there are some idiots who've become moderators. They don't need to be intelligent to become a moderator, all that is required is an interest or knowledge in the forum subject that they're set to moderate, which is usually found by their posting pre-moderating.

Again, only a handful of mods here are full-time assholes. If someone acts like an idiot, and are called so by one, two, ten, twenty people, is this bullying? I'd call it stating the obvious or calling a spade a spade.

ROFL @ Kemos - just had to explain LOLCATS and Mordie to a non boardsie here who I'm on shift with cos I was breaking myself laughing at that!

IMO, It takes two people to bully - one to consistenly abuse and one to take it. IRL, it's easier for a bully to intimidate someone because of perceived popularity / physical size etc. On-line, it's far more down to someone not standing their ground when someone's acting the twat.

I've never gotten the whole 'fight da powah' thing tbh. I've received my share of forum bans on here, and was once site-banned for a month. Did I feel bullied? No. I broke the rules of a privately owned website and if I wanted to keep using it I just had to take my 'punishment' and follow the rules from then on.

Anyway, I find that internet bullies are usually kids who have been bullied in school and take their frustrations out on others via the internet.
