Yoinks!! Thats a bummer. I think Nikon have a repair base in meath somewhere. the location escapes me at the mo. do a google seach and you should come up thrumps. Or even the nikon web site should have details i guess.

I have a D50, how do you find it?

Had to get a d70 repaired before, had to send it to london, don't think they service dslrs in ireland(or maybe that was just the type of repair i needed). Website should have a support number

are you sure is the camera and not the lens?
have you tried that lens on a different camera and your camera with a different lens? may be is not that bad

This is the Nikon repair centre in Ireland. Although you may want to contact Nikon first. There's also the Camera Repair Centre up at Portobello Harbour if you're in and around Dublin, though they're likely to just get the camera sent across to the UK.

Plus as quilmore said, you may want to try a different lens before getting the body repaired.

    Good luck!

definitly try another lens on the camera, and try the lens on a differet camera to see whether it is the lens or camera. check t see if the contact pins on the lens are clean where they connect with the camera too. Obviously check things like the camera is set to autofocus and not manual (I don't mean to sound patronising but its something we're all guilty of). Some lenses can be set for autofcus or manual focus too, so thats another one to check. Other than that I have no idea why. Hope you get it sorted.

Hopefully it will turn out to be something small which is easily repaired

glad it was something as simple
btw, are your lenses AF or AF-S?
AF uses the motor on the camera, AF-S receives the order via the pins (electric signal) and a motor inside the lens will do the autofocus

I'm curious now, did it fail with both kind of lenses?

moot advice since the crisis has been averted, but i have heard that a manufacturer's warranty is not the be all and end all of getting something fixed - consumer law states that you should expect the item to continue working for the expected lifetime of the item.

this is obviously to prevent people selling cameras (or whatever else) with 1 month warranties, and then refusing to countenance a free repair two months later.

so you could make a case that you would expect a DSLR to last longer than a year, and assuming the fault is not caused by the user, insist on a free repair.
