    Hi all,
I reckon I'm in need of HD recovery on this one but just in case anyone has some tips... I'm on an IBM Thinkpad and it's served me well for 5 years. Nothing happens when I press the power button. The only light is the battery light and that's only on when it is plugged into the wall. If I remove the battery and plug it in then no light shows. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Doesn't sound like a Hard Drive problem, generally if the hard drive is causing issues the machine would still power up.
Is the Model of Thinkpad an IBM T20/T21? Theres an issue with those models where the capacitors on the motherboard overcharge when plugged in to mains power and it takes a long time for them to discharge and allow you to power the laptop up again.
It could also be a memory issue, try removing the RAM (generally accessible through a hatch underneath the laptop) and see does it power on.
    Keep us posted.

Thanks for the tip! It's actually a T40, don't know if that matters. I'll let you know how it fairs! :)

So I entrusted the compy to my brother the techie who was able to revive it. Only took disassembling the thing and blowing all the dust and crap out of it. Data was all recoverable. Just goes to show, ya never know! He got the old compy in thanks and I type this on my new shiny Vaio. *pets Vaio* :)

Hi, I'm having a similar problem only it's a HP dv8395ea that won't boot up windows. A few lads in a computer store replaced various components to no avail so it looks like a damaged motherboard. Any suggestions?!! I'm quite close to tears and I'm 2 months past warranty!!
