guys have a strange one here.

we set up an intra net in the office, ever one can browse to http://servername/ and view the first page no problem. everyone that is except one user. keep geting a page not found error when ever i try it.

I services packed the PC fully, well didn't put ie7 on it left it at 6.1 ran ipconfig /flushdns and nothing. the PC is on 2Ksp4 but i tries other similar machines and nothing. IP addressing is given via DHCP so i doubt it's that.

anyone any ideas on what to try next??

does a proxy need to be specified in internet explorer?????
in IE go to tools / internet options/ connections / lan settings

compare what is here with a working client.

no need for a proxy to be set every other machine (about 50) can look at the page no problem with or without proxy i have the proxy settings set to bypass for local addresses using a group policy. this one machine i get a 404 error, but it has no issues accessing the Internet at all just this one web page on our LAN.

can you ping servername from that PC? Can you do a \\servername to bring up the shares?

There would not be an entry in the hosts file that redirects it would there?

if i go //server name i can view the printers and faxes and also the scheduled items. there are no drives shared out from this particular server. it's an internal web server using IIS.

the good news :D is that the PC in question juster went down with an inaccessible boot disk, strange that there was no noise etc coming from the disk that I'm aware of. it gets about half way through the 2K splash screen then fails. I'll try the chkdsk /f option on it to get it up and running.

can't recall if i could ping by server name off hand. I'll try get the HDD up and running and come back on that. if i can't get the disk back I'll just do a rebuild.

    cheers guys
