HP Pavilion dv2000 reinstall

    Hello!

Can anyone give me some advice on reformatting the drive of a HP Pavilion dv2000 with Vista Home on it, and installing XPSP2? I just started off an XP install there but setup couldn't find any hard drives.

I did a quick google and found bits and pieces here and there about how much of a 'nightmare' it is to reformat these laptops. Does anyone have suggestions on how to go about it?

    Thanks!

It shouldn't be too hard, do you have the XP disc available? You can use that to format the hard drive. As AlmightCushion mentioned, you might have to change the bootup settings to load the CD first instead of the hard drive for it to load setup.

    Link here for full info.

You might have to change a setting in the bios. I don't know off hand but I'll do a quick look and post it up.

Edit: I think I have it. There should a setting in your bios that is set to ACHI, change it to ATA. That should fix it.

If your doing the whole XP install you'll need the drivers from this link.

Remenber also that these laptops have a hidden partition that's used during factory restore. If you wan the extra space, Fdisk the drive to clear the partitions.
Booting from the XP install CD, this will rebuild the partition, then follow instructions to complete the setup. In a lot of case's XP will have a default driver that MIGHT work with most hardware. Even if these drivers work, I'd recommend installing the latest version from the driver page I've linked here.

Good luck, you'll need it ;)
