Are you looking specifically for a PC laptop of are you open to Mac suggestions?

    budget ?
do you want portability or just something tidy ?
OpenOffice is a free alternative to M$Office for most uses apart from outlook

You can't really go too far wrong with a Dell Vostro (under small business section), if you're looking for cheap and practical.

A vostro 1000 should do you fine for what you need.
