connectivity to 248 non-stop destinations from Paris Charles de Gaulle. This compares with the 169 destinations out of Heathrow
never knew that, I always thought that LHR had the most routes of any hub in europe. so it looks like aerlingus did shannon a favour!

Not only that, but if CityJet are going into T2 you're in one of the nicest airport terminals going - really kicks LHR to touch.

CDG is an awful airport, probably slightly worse than LHR.

    Good news for Shannon though.

I think Heathrow has more flights, but fewer destinations, than Paris and possibly Frankfurt.

I strongly disagree with that statement. T1 of CDG is quirky, yes. If you fly in there with Aer Lingus it is all you get to see. However, if you know your way around it it's a doddle to get in and out of that airport. This is not true for T1 of LHR where everything takes ages no matter how well you know the place.

T2 CDG is completely different and if you fly in there with Air France you will get to see it. There is plenty of room to sit down there, most check in gates are 10 minutes max - and usually five - from planes, the security screening is a hell of a lot more efficient than it is in either Dublin or LHR. Shopping areas are far better than anything LHR has to offer and again they are not miles from the boarding gates. It's a total pleasure to fly through.

If I'm flying long haul anywhere, LHR is bottom of my list of airports to transit. Frankfurt and CDG are far better in my opinion and I am told that Amsterdam Schiphol is noticeably better as well.

CDG has a lot of flights to French excolonials and DOMTOMS which would not be so required out of the UK. The difference is the number of options to places like Australia out of the UK is far higher than out of FRA and CDG, for example.

    My two cents worth.

Schiphol is a fantastic airport, I wouldnt touch LHR unless I was flying to England and even then I dunno.

Once the interurbans (and the N20, eventually) are done, then this wont be such a big deal, because then Cork and Dublin airports will be much easier to drive from the Limerick etc direction. You'll be talking 1 1/2 hours to Cork and probobly 2 1/2 to Dublin.

    SNN guy wrote:
Shannon Airport director Martin Moroney said that the decision was a "hugely significant development for businesses in the West as they are now guaranteed greater-than-ever connectivity to key international markets through the region’s gateway airport in Shannon".

So what he's saying is he whinged about losing LHR and half the west made out like it was going to lose them all their jobs. Then they all whinged about how they needed the link to LHR. Now they have another airport and all is dandy. Perhaps (as said by someone here before) instead of whinging they should have looked for flights to other airports...

    that would have been me.

that being said, the planes that CityJet use are quite a bit smaller than the A320s which were going to London so capacity is a bit off by comparison. I think they should look at Amsterdam as well if there are slots.

Capacity is not a long term problem, if the planes are full then the service will be increased. Many of the people going to LHR were terminating there and a not part of interconnection debate. The two flights a day is not a great level of connection if you miss your flight.

I didn't say it was a problem, I said it was off by comparison to what had been available on the London Heathrow route, that's all.

Long term it'll always be dictated by demand, terminal capacity in Paris and whatever CityJet have in the way of planes.

I don't understand your point, why would we want to travel to cork and dublin when we can get it in shannon? we want businesses to come to our region because of shannon, not because it will be easier to get to other airports

maybe I just didnt get your point
