Beginning in January, DSG International customers will be able to buy a range of Dell notebooks and desktops through PC World, Currys and Currys.digital stores, as well as from Dixons.co.uk online. With this agreement, Dell products will soon be available in more than 10,000 stores around the globe. In the past several months Dell has announced similar deals with retailers in the US, China, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.

I always thought the whole point of Dell's was the customisability & cutting out the middle man... Now that'll be gone, why would someone buy a Dell in PC World as opposed to on Dell's website???

    The impulse buy perhaps?

There's talk the Dell are moving all their assembly operations to Poland?

I wonder if the store deal goes ahead, will you still be able to buy direct from their site?

i would imagine so. i think this deal (and others internationally) are moreso linked to HP/Compaq/Advent/E-machines et al taking market share with people who don't like buying online, or like to "try out" what they're buying before they go splashing cash...

maybe we can create custom builds online and get them from the shops?

although, if they're gonna be in cahoots with these retailers, something tells me the value you get online, will be sadly missing in store. :o

They'll probably offer PCs of comparable spec to the ones for sale in the shop at similar prices. Guess the fact that you have to wait a couple of weeks for the delivery of the PC puts some people off, so by selling through the shops they hope DELL PC with same spec beats a Compaq PC same spec
