X-ray Wait

So I hurt my poor hand the other day and was pretty sure i had just sprained or strained some fingers. After getting a quick checkup with the doc he said he would like me to get an xray and told me to ring St James. Does anybody have any idea how long i'll have to wait or will it be quick enough? I have visions of being stuck in casualty whilst world war three rages around me (If what I have learned about hospitals from television is true)

If your doctor is referring you which seems to be the case you go straight to the X ray part and it will take about 2 hours at the very most. I get X rays alot and most of the time im out in 1 hour.

Cool thanks for the info, he is indeed referring me. Last question, will they be able to tell me there and then if I've broken anything or will I have to contact my GP?

Poor hand. Well an xray is a photograph essentially so they will tell you (and treat you accordingly) there and then. No telling how long you will have to wait but surely its worth it to see once and for all what the problem is?

Thats true, I get the feeling that its not actually broken. The doctor didnt think it was either so this is just to be sure. I guess I'm in the mindset that it will be a waste of time and equipment etc if it turns out its not.

I have an image of you typing with one finger here.

You're going to have to wait ages as non-emergency but hey- that's Ireland. Now off you pop- no-one here is going to be able to tell you anything of use, namely- length of wait at least 4 hours + in my experience.

Well perhaps not typing with one finger but there are definite finger aerobics going on as certain ones are held aloft in protection. Right i'm booked in for tomorrow, I'll know then once and for all. Many thanks all.

If you are able to pay the VHI have private clinics , I know there is one in DCU ( you don't have to be a vhi customer) they xray onsite and have docs even do the plaster / bandage too.

Used them before and they are a hell of a lot more pleasant then the A&E.

My mother had to wait over 6 hours for an x-ray the other day - it wasn't a Dublin hospital though so don't know if the waiting time would be longer/shorter there.
