Saw the trailer for this last night. As far as I can see it's just The Count of Monte Cristo for hairdressers.

Really don't like the look of it. I loved the recent Ray Winstone version of Sweeney Todd, they really made brilliant use of a small budget. Quite graphically violent as well, something I doubt this version will be.

Have to agree I thought Ray Winstone was excellent.

Getting a bit sick of Depp and his mockney accent, especially with that kn0bjockey Russel Brand going round doing his second rate impression of Cpt. Jack

i saw a trailer for this a few weeks ago. I thought that it looked pretty good. I haven't heard of this story before so i can't compare the look or feel of it to anything else. I don't especially mind depp, so i'll probably catch this when it comes out.

I think it's coming along quite nicely. I love musicals, especially unusual ones so any chance to see a musical with murder is something not to be missed in my book.

I've heard that almost all the dialogue is sung. They seem to be trying hard to hide that in the trailer where you hear mostly short, sharp phrases. The Hostel brigade are not going to be happy if what they get is the Sound of Music with added blood.

You're probably right there, but to be honest I don't think it will be beneficial for cinematography as a whole if directors and filmmakers have to start given precedence to the expectations and demands of certain subsets of the audience rather than, you know, just trying to make as good and entertaining a film as they can.

Looking forward to this, although I expect it to be another instance of Burton's style-over-substance approach. (On the other hand, at least his style is interesting enough to let him get away with this...)

Yes it is the film production of the musical.
