Arcade Cabs for sale - Afterburner/MKombat II

    Hello all,

New to the forum, but have been collecting arcade machines for a few years now and thinking of letting a few go.

I'm posting here to gage the interest levels, and considering sticking them on adverts.ie at the weekend. So, up for grabs:

Sega Afterburner - 1987, when Sega decided that the dedicated cab was due a comeback! This is an upright, nice condition (not perfect - side art a little scraped in places) but working well. Bright crisp monitor, all warning lamps fully functional. Has a coin mech installed - I'd have fiddled with the dipswitches but the boards are all nicely encased in a metal cover with about 25 bolts, so always found it easier just to open the coin box or key up a few credits with the service switch.

Midway Mortal Kombat II - This is in really good condition - perfect side art, marquee, all working really well (I have a spare set of boards for spares too). Maybe a little cruder than SFII, this is a great fun fighting game. It's a big JAMMA+ cab, and while it couldn't condone it, a MAME conversion would be very possible. Monitor is big and working, although might want a cap kit in the next year or so - little bit of greening at the edges, but nothing that effects gameplay (many arcades can run a monitor with green edges daily for years before they do anything about it).

I'm asking slightly silly money for both as A) I've paid for van hire and boats to bring them back here to Dublin. You'll find cheaper on ebay, but they'll be somewhere near Manchester, not a mere mile from the city centre. And B) Like I said, I'm only THINKING of selling;) My arm needs a little twisting. Well, quite a bit;)

So, the bad news. Afterburner - €600, Mortal Kombat II - €500.

    Pictures please!

Is the Mortal Kombat cabinet an orginal MK cabinet?

Apologies - should have made that clearer Techofreak - Yes, Mortal Kombat 2 is a dedicated cab. It's JAMMA wired, however (JAMMA+, in fact, as it has 5 buttons) so you can play any other horizontal orientation JAMMA game board on it... or easily wire to a MAME PC with a jpac connector.

Pictures attached, but they're pretty poor quality, taken at night with a cameraphone! If you are interested, PM me an email address and I will take some proper shots for you over the weekend.

How far inwards has the green edges extended on the MK2 cabinet?
How difficult is it to install a cap kit?

It's not too far at all, Technofreek - I've attached a photo of the screen and highlighted the effected areas.

They are certainly not that large, and a cap kit is probably the most complex solution to the problem - a good degauss might be all that's needed. In all honesty, I haven't really taken the time to sort it out myself as A) everything else about the cab works perfectly and B) It's the sort of game you get much more fun with two players... any my missus now prefers The Sims to beat-em-ups;)

To fit a cap kit requires the removal of the circuit board which powers the monitor, and the replacement of a few capacators. These can be bought in kit form for the relevant monitors and if that sounds too scary for you, any TV repair guy should be able to do it for you.

As I said, if you are interested, shoot me a PM with contact details and we can have a chat.

Certainly looks like just needs a good degauss to me too. It's not unusual for monitors to go that way - even moving a cab can do it. Degaussing sorts it back to perfect.
Looks like a nice cab also!

BTW, is that a Robotron I see peeking a look beside the Afterburner?:D:D:D

I had one (black UK version) but sold it last year along with one of my Defenders.

Nice cabs - they should be whipped up!:)

No Ronnie! Don't do it, don't sell your cabs! At least not until i get a blast on your After Burner. After Burner is definitely up there as one of my top 5 games of all time, such a classic.

BTW Ronnie, I'm moving to Dublin (Rush) in January and my arcade cabs and pcb collection are coming too. Will be in touch!

    Joe

Oh Joe, I think you're just moving to Rush to be closer to Dot;)

Why don't I KEEP the Afterburner FOR YOU until you move down in Jan, when you can BUY it from me and play it as much as you want.

Look at it as a special "moving in" present to yourself;)
    You know it makes sense.

Hello Ronnie T welcome to the forum,Nice cabs, but I have no more room, just chasing up a pinball at the Mo.
I've *always* wanted a pinball machine, but a number of years ago a dealer advised me against it, saying that they can be pretty high-maintenance due to the amount of moving parts in them.

Failing that, and due to a lack of space, my heart is currently set on getting one of those old table-top 2p Bally slots or a table version of either Pacman or Space Invaders.

There's plenty on ebay, but as OP said, most are in the UK. Any idea where I could get one of the above in Ireland?

    Hi Mitch

What I'm actually after is a table-top slot that takes the old 2p decimal coins, similar to one of the Pachislo machines on your site, but of an older vintage.

Nice prices on some of your slots BTW, but my heart is set on getting one of the above.

Ok, as this thread descended into a slots and pinball thread (cheers mitch;)) I'm going to stick Mortal Kombat 2 up on adverts.ie and see if I get any interest from the general public.

If anyone here is still interested, please reply through adverts.ie.
