Iv posted here on occasion about giving up drinking, mainly just to show anyone reading who is in despair about their drinking ( as i often was while reading on here) that it is possible to stop.

Im on day 120 with the help of AA meetings. Some days are tougher than others but overall it is more managable than i dreamed it could be.

Well done brokensoul. I think if you want something badly enough it makes it easier - I gave up smoking almost 5 years ago and was surprised that it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
You should be very proud of yourself, and I wish you continued success.

Well done OP, that's fantastic. Very thoughtful of you too to have posted with an update. There have been a number of posts recently relating to this topic so hopefully it will give people in a similar boat the courage to do the right thing.

    Howya Man,

Do you know about the Non-drinkers forum on boards. It's where we set up things for non-drinkers to do. We haven't done anything yet but hoping to have something set up during the christmas. Your more than welcome to come along.

Good on you OP. Here's the Non-Drinker's Forum, I've been dabbling about in it myself these days, considering cutting back on the drinking for the end of this year, and then for further on in future. (Being a student has polluted me).
    Good job again.

That's cool about the non-drinkers forum.

I've been off the drink now since new years 2004, so nearly 4 years.. can't believe it's been that long!

I definitely advocate the gradual reduction of alcohol for non AA people. I was never addicted to drink but I did rely on it to be able to let myself go completely at times.. If you go from being big into your drink and drink culture to nothing, then it's hard to keep that.

But if you gradually go through a change in lifestyle, living philosophy and health then it will gradually come, and you will need drink less and less. What really helped me was getting more into the spiritual side of things, but I guess it's different for everyone.
