I know Denman has been extremely visually impressive in a few races now. But imo, the formlines and race times just don't stack up against what Kauto Star has achieved. I don't really get why Denman is Gold Cup favourite.

I would have a doubt about Kauto's stamina in a strongly run Gold Cup, but I am convinced Kauto is the better horse.

That's down the road though. From a more immediate betting standpoint, I really wish that news/rumour about Denman hadn't happened, as I was strongly considering investing in The Listener for the Lexus. Even so, I think 3/1 or so is still not short enough.
    Anyone else like this bet?

I wouldnt read too much into the times of past Hennessy's tbh.

Personally id have him still about 7-8lbs below Kauto Star, i think 3lbs below him is a tad too high and maybe his Hennessy mark will eventually be revised. Then again maybe hes a machine who is capable of higher ratings.

The Listener is currently 5/2 and barring a fall i cant see him getting near Denman, if they all turn up on the day though Powers might offer around evens betting w/o Denman which would be a stonking bet.

Not the biggest Nick Mordin fan but he wasn't too impressed with his hennessy win. Says this week that the listener will win the lexus. Not sure i agree with him but its always good to read a man who doesn't go with the crowd and has his own opinions. Also reckons Twist Magic won't win the Champion Chase!

some on course bookies will be betting w/o Denman on the day but duck's arses have known not be as tight as Irish on course bookies!

Of course, then there are those who go in the opposite direction of the crowd just for the sake of it...

Sometimes, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck and looks like a duck... it's just a duck...

    Denman for me...

I read those Mordin comments in the Irish Field.
I wouldn't put a huge amount of store into times for National Hunt races.
The way its ran affects it massively. Times for flat sprints- OK. Not for 3m Chases.

Regardless he'll skate home in the Lexus Chase....The Listener will not see what way he goes.
