Ethernet Port

The Ethernet port on my Compaq laptop has stopped working. As I can't connect to the Internet I can't download a new driver. I suspect the port itself is damaged, thanks to my teenagers! Have installed usb ports in my desktop before but I'm a novice at this kind of thing. Is it difficult to install a new ethernet port . Would I need a new ethernet card also. Don't even know how to open my laptop. Is it risky to do so? Would I be better to bring it somewhere to get it fixed? Any ideas where? Would it be costly to have it repaired? I live in the Killiney area.

    Is your LAN connecition enabled?

Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Right Click > Enable

If the port itself is defo gone you can get a usb to lan device that would do the job.

Right Click on MY Computer - Select Manage - Once Computer Management opens up - Select Device Management - In the right hand panel select Network Adapters -From this list select your network adapter and right click on it, select Remove.
Restart your laptop and let it detect the Network controller again and should reinstall the drivers for it.
That may fix the problem but their are several things that could be going on.
I would advise DO NOT open up your lapto as repairing a network connection is not possible. You would need to get an add-in PCMCIA network card to fix it if indeed the port is physically damaged.
