ok so alot of apps like adium etc seem to be just click and drag installations this is great but when i want to get rid of them if i move the icon from applications to the trash and empty the trash are the apps completely gone?

ionly ask coz i got rid of thunderbird and then went back to it and it still had all my preferences saved

    .plist files get left over

    search for them and delete

generally its drag & drop for the applications themselves, though you're correct about preferences etc....

    AppZapper does the whole lot

You could also try appdelete, which is quite handy. Basically you drag the app you want t uninstall over the appdelete icon and it deletes all those hidden files for you aswell.

These files are kept in ~/Library so if you're feeling adventurous, delete them yourself! This is also a great way of troubleshooting random app problems. Delete the prefs, relaunch the app and it'll make a fresh set of preference files.

AppZapper won't get everything. Its a handy program, but you might have to go into Library in your personal account, and the system Library to get rid of everything.
