TO my knowledge it doesn't, unless there are news ones out again. They took the backwards compatability out of the 40gb models to reduce the price... I think backwards compatibility only works with the 60gb model.

The 40GB Does not play ps2 games AT ALL,

It does however fully support PS1 Backwards compatibility,

    Don't spread false information.

Because software emulation of PS1 is so easy to do there was no need to remove it,

Hell some mobile phones can emulate a PS1 nowadays.

If it did not support it then you wouldn't be able to download PS1 classics from the PSN Store.

It supports PS1 through software emulation. They pull it off perfectly on PSP so having it working on PS3 was very easy.

The reason I ask is that I seem to remember reading in the manual that it did. Have not got the manual anymore but have a load of classic games like resident evil 2 and metal gear solid sittin in the attic. Just wonderin is it worth my while gettin them down. I am well aware that it does not support ps2 games!
