I know there is already a thread on racism in this forum and we often see related threads elsewhere (particularly AH) but i would like to start a discussion on integration.

Lets face it, no matter how many foreigners break the law, abuse social welfare entitlements, "get more than irish unemployed do" etc as we here about in AH, migration is here to stay indefinitely.

What do you think is the best way to deal with integration to avoid the problems that arose in france and the UK many years ago? To me, it seems like we havent learnt from other's mistakes.

The government got something right in small, by increasing the amount of social housing builders must provide in new developments, but is it too late?

    what are your views?

Are you serious? You actually think that the government should provide social housing for immigrants when thousands of our own people cannot afford a house? And, what sort of immigrant are you talking about? Young eastern Europeans?,EU citzens?, Very welcome, “asylum seekers”? Hold at point of landing and send back to where they came from ASAP.

I left it open and generalised to spur the debate and discussion. Social housing can mean social housing, affordable housing etc.

An Immigrant for the purpose of this discussion, is anyone living in ireland long term, be they asylum seekers or other EU nationals.

Most people who take up affordable and social housing are Irish afaik so I don't see how that's an example of the govt dealing with migration.
