In the past you couldnt go wrong with "Uncut" magazines albums of the year. recently im not so sure.
id say "plan b" and "Word" might have ok recommendations. there is nothing Q, bbc, nme will tell you that you havent heard already.
to broaden your horizons, why not try "The Wire" for something little more off the wall.

Rocksound's one is good, except biffy clyro is number 1.

Aereogramme at #2 should of been number 1

Well, NME has Klaxon's album as best of 2007 so that's all you need to know about their poll. I reckon Uncut still do good ones.

Biffys album should definately be up there(says he who's listening to it now:D)

And I dont care what anyone says, but Era Vulgaris should be higher up lists(or at least easily making lists).

Looking at uncut magazine, I've noticed they included The Hold Steady- Boys and Girls in America.
    That came out in 2006.

They're his top 50 songs. There's nothing wrong with him just because he likes bands you don't know.

Like John said, top 50 songs of the year.
Been doing it since 1986 - hence the 'year 22' heading.
Use your fingers if you think it's 21 not 22.

Great to see iliketrains and aereogramme (R.i.P) getting mentioned. Top cds for me this year were
    PJ Harvey White chalk
Aereogramme- My heart has a wish that you would not go
    Gravenhust - the western lands
    iliketrains- elegies to lessons learnt
twilight sad- 14 autumns and 15 winters
    the national -boxer
les savy fav - lets stay friends
    liars - liars
okkervil river - the stage names
the shins wincing the night away

and my turkey of the year is arcadefire, what a dreadful follow up to a classic, 3 good songs and the rest were duds.

The Klaxons are OK but it's clear NME made up there minds a year ago and expected the Klaxons to be much bigger commercially.

And yes Era Vulgaris was much better than a lot of critics seemd to think.

Brilliant album, brillant band, brilliant live.

Neon Bible wasn't as good as I was hoping, either was In Rainbows.

Q's list seems to be the best I think

Exactly. Music is far too individual for me to car about anything other than whether i like a song or not.

http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/ containes the top lists from most of the major publications. I don't subscribe to the theory of one being the best - you'll see an overlap of about 40%-70% across most lists, and a lot of these are the current flavours of the month, easily broken down into the following categories for 2007:
    • This is unlistenable so it must be good
    • This is psychedelic, so it must be good
    • This is happy pop sung by 20 people playing a saw, so it must be good
I'd say dip, pick, choose, and make your own list. That's the best one.
