Choose Me A New Guitar!

Well, christmas is coming, and i'm thinking of getting a new electric guitar.

My current set up is a Gibson Les Paul Standard into a Boss Me-10 into a Roland Jc-120. Sounds good. I like.

I'm thinking of venturing out a bit though. Firstly, opinions on replacing the ME-10 with a GT8? Or maybe something similar?

Also in terms of the new electric, the model I was looking at most was an Ibanez RG3120, 2nd hand, if I can find one. I'm also considering (instead!) a nice US strat or something else a bit different from the LP.

    Any ideas?

If you can pick one up, go for it, they're an awesome guitar, nearly as good as a low-end J-Custom. Fantastic, one of the best RGs ever made in the bang-for-buck department.

Obviously go for the older model with the offset-dots and Dimarzios (usually in TW or red). The more recent model was a bit crappy.

    Whats your budget like?

Ive a Mexican Strat and cant fault it if you cant quite stretch to a US one.
Although you'd get a US one on thomman or the likes for nearly the same price as you'd pick up a mexican in a brick n mortar.

Got the Strat to accompany the LP I have and its great for a change now and again.

Cheers for the tip, two questions though:

    a) Where would be a good place to look?
    b) Hadn't really heard about the J Custom's before... needless to say now that I have I'm very interested, particularly as the HSH configuration would be nice alternative to the LP. Any idea where to look for one?

J Customs are pretty much the cream of the crop when it comes to Ibanez. Absolutely some of the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever played. ;)

If you're looking for a used one, then check out the Ishibashi U-Box (Got some amazing deals from them before), Ebay, Jemsite, and Ibanez Rules have a couple of used ones too.

    Hope that helps.

If I didn't already own a Strat, this picture would say to me, "Any questions?"

Edit: hahaaa, just noticed Gilmour's holding a Tele. But he's mainly a strat player. :)

If you mean where to look for a 3120TW, just the usual places. Keep an eye out on ebay, jemsite, u_box etc. I'd consider if you got one in good condition for 700-800 to be pretty good value.

J-Customs are unbelievable guitars, if you're into the RG style, you can't get any better. They compare very well to the likes of Suhr and Tom Anderson also, which many guys overlook, they really are an incredibly well-made axe.

You'll pick up an early one (96-99) for a grand or under - that'll be similar to a RG3120 with a much better flamed top and higher build quality all-round.

The more recent models (with vine-inlays, maple binding on the neck etc) are new enough that you won't find one cheap. Ishibashi (and other Jap stores) used to be the place to look for JCs, but lately ebay resellers are buying most of Ishibashi's guitars before they hit the market, and there's so many guys looking for JCs that they're pretty thin on the ground these days.

New ones are always available, but they're very expensive.
