Hi allI am new to the sport i have to saya i love it, i got interested after the toys for boys show in the rds and after seeing the "offical airsofters" i promptly got on the web and ordered by kit for the far east, and so far have gotten out to hrta once, have changed my first airsoft gear box and my wardrobe is gradually becoming more green, all great fun and i will be at hrta this week-end, but what i really wanted to speak about is the media,I have been really impressed with the speed and professionalisim of the Irish Airsoft association in responding to news reports and the radio, I was thinking why not try something different, why not approach a paper or radiostation directly to discuss the sport it will allow you to be more prepared and do things on more of a balanced footing, and would be good p.r. i would love to hear about airsoft on the last word or a similar programme, one of the reasons i mention this is because christmas is near and airsoft appears to be the next big thing, and there will more than likley be alot more people out there with airsoft rifleswhat does everyone think?

It's been suggested several times about inviting journalists and radio show hosts out for a skirmish, however organising such a big press day takes a good deal of work and i'd imagine now that the AGM is done with, it's on the list of things to do for the IAA (however i'll let them give an official answer on that)

secondly, there is a writer for the shooter's digest who is interested in doing an article on airsoft which is currently being organised, however like everything, this will take some time

with airsoft being so new in Ireland, the only thing that most journalists can see in it right now is reporting it in a negative light, the only part of airsoft they've seen so far is the aeg's themselves on sale at toys 4 big boys and the like, half of them probably don't even realise there is a growing sport behind it, or simply choose to ignore this fact in order to facilitate sensationalisation (is that a word?) of their articles.

Unfortunately, this is a fact of life, good news just doesn't sell, but there are certain outlets where a positive report will work (such as above mentioned shooter's digest), with regard to radio stations, spin 1038 and phantom are the ones to consider as these appeal to the younger crowd who are less likely to react with "Wont somebody please think of the children?!!?!"

Its a good idea and im sure there are many people working on it, but like kdouglas said, it takes time and a lot of work to get in touch with the right people and get them the right information and then to make sure it is good enough to be published etc.

Regards the radio side of things, The IPPA (Irish Paintball Players Association) managed to get on Phantom to do a piece for one of their small shows. It is a start but it will lead onto bigger and better things.

You can hear the piece here: http://www.paintballer.ie/viewtopic.php?t=1563
