    Hey Guys,

I'm planning on binning Vista, not getting the performance I want or the reliability I want. So switching to Fedora 8. Has anyone else tried this and how have you found it?

i used f8 - it's as good as any of the others i suppose, yum is easy to use, but if you have an ati card beware - i still can't get the desktop effects to work under f8 with my x1400, generally though, it's my preferred distro

I used FC5. Loved it. Package manager has improved a lot over the years.

Just a little warning: if you're planning on dual-booting, Fedora doesn't always play nice with creating entries for other OSes when booting with GRUB.

    Why not fedora?

Mainly because I use RHEL in work and this is the next best thing.

Yeah, definitely go for F8. It'll take a bit more time to set up than PCLOS, Ubuntu etc. (the dumbed down distros!) but it'll be worth it. I found FC5, FC6 and F7 very good for development work especially. Pretty cutting edge though so everything may not work without a bit of tweaking.

I don't need Linux for development on my home PC any more so I use PCLOS. I learned a lot more using Fedora though.
