So who decided that live tourneys start at 9!?

why 9? why not 9.30? who not 7pm?why not 8pm!?

    WHY 9pm?!

where is the market research to suggest this is the ideal time? not once in my 2+ years of going to card rooms has someone done any marketing research to suggest that any input from players was sought for this.

    popular games during the week:
SE Sunday 50... 7pm start... why do people play it "ah so you can still get up for work on monday"
SE Monthly 200 game... 6.30 start...

this is kinda a follow on from bohsman's "how can we fix the friday 100 game" thread, but surely there is a market, at least on certain nights of the week for 7pm starts and 8pm starts...

for example, say a given tuesday, which would you prefer as a player.

    Option 1:
SE: €75+5 scalp game, 9pm start
Fitz: €50+5, Double Chance, 9pm start
    CHL: €50+5+20 Scalp, 9pm start

    or

    Option 2:
SE: €75+5 scalp game, 8pm start
Fitz: €50+5, Double Chance, 9pm start
    CHL: €50+5+20 Scalp, 8.30pm start

personally i think there is a HUGELY different choice on option2. and allows for... start in the se, go bust, move to the next game.

why cant we have 7.30 starts and 8 starts!?

Basically during the Week most people only get home by 7.00 (thanks to the fecking M50, sigh) so it really wouldn't be a runner. Yes on Saturday and Sundays earlier tournaments etc.,

I think the problem is that because of the better structures etc., in tournaments i.e. longer clock etc., the finish times of final tables is well past 4.00 a.m. which had resulted in more deals being done, because people have to be up for work....

I really like the S.E. Monday night game, but there is not point in playing in it because ive work on Tuesday and I cannot function with only 3 hours sleep...

thats what i mean, i'd sturggle to do a days work of 3hrs sleep too, and as a result of working i'm reluctant to go an dplay a card game at 9pm, even an 8pm start would potentially give me an extra hour sleep the other side. i'm not suggesting ALL tourney's go back but surely there has to be a market for one game on a tuesday or wednesday being 8pm sharp start. there's 4 clubs in dublin starting games every night at 9pm, if one of them gave a decent playable game at 8pm once a week it'd be great. i'm not talking about a 100 euro plus game with deep stacks and 100+ runners, but a 30 runner field, 5k stack for €50 euro.

150k chips in play. 25min clock. say 14 levels get played blinds would be 2k-4k after 6hrs of play. so at 2am you;re gonna be VERY CLOSE to a finish no matter what happens. there'll be plenty of play for €50.

So for any tourney organisers... give me a tuesday/wednesday/thursday game

    25min clock
    all blind levels.
5k stack (or 4500+ 500 for those ON TIME!!!!)
    8pm start

take the jackpot wednesday game. 40e , 4k stack, 30mins for three levels then 20. nice tourny, start it at 8 and i'd play more often, or jsut do 25 mins the whole way through. i dont get messing about from 30mins for 2hrs then switching to 20!?!

I'd love tournaments to start at 7pm or 8pm during the week....so if I last until after midnight-1 and I am going to be wrecked at work the following day, at least I know I got in the money.....and if I go out early, at least I am not wrecked at work.... it's a win-win situation :)

If CHL's advertised it for 6pm, it would actually start around 8!!!

But yea i reckon it cause of people's jobs,as smurph said if you get home at say 7, and then want to get something to eat - thats around 7:30, and then it depends where your coming from, do you have to cross the liffey?, etc.. now personally i'm still a bum in college(for a few more months anyhow), so i can't really relate to it...

O and did you quit ur pizza boy job?

I'd definitely like to have more tournies starting @ 7ish during the week. The main reason I don't play live much is due to the fact that I get up before 7 every morning for work, so the odd time I've gone deep in a tournie I've been wrecked the next day.

Hanging around town after work and playing at 7 would also suit me better and I'm sure it would others who work around the city too.

ive always felt this way. obviously no matter what time u start a game u cant keep everyone happy but me personally would much rather they start at 7.30 or 8

People should stop working immediately. Its the only way to solve this problem.

Is 9pm past your bed time ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭TripleAce

They could do something like this:

    Mon 7pm 50€
    Tue 9pm 50€
    Wed 7pm 100€
    Thu 9pm 100€

This way everybody can chose time/€ that suit them best. I am sure Casinos would get the numbers anyway and they can adjust the timetable accordingly.

obviously 9pm will suit some people, but what i'm saying is SURELY there is a market for people at 7pm or 8pm. while yes many people won't be able to make a 7pm start, MANY WILL. i'm sure some people work nights and cant make a 9pm start, but we dont have tourneys starting at 10am. obviously there is demand for a 9pm tourney start, but i'd be shocked if a decent tourney in the 30-70 range didnt get a bucket of runners at 7pm.

and indeed i did quit my pizza boy job... too much cheese! made me quite heavy! am now working in merrion square so a 7pm start or even 8pm start is preferable. and im rather bored in work so i figure i need to post every hour on this forum to maintain sanity

I think it'd be win-win for the casinos as surely they'd get more cash tables going then too!

Over here the tourneys start at 6. There's no major traffic problems here though and people usually start work earlier so it's not really comparable.

Ditpoker!!!! what are u like. you really do nothing in work. ill tell u what how bout u quit ur job do a year of market research open ur own casino call it Jeffs Jumblebox. Have internet cafe upstairs so u can carry out more research also have ur sister and her mates dancing downstairs so people from boards actually turn up.:D:D:D

tourni schedules could be at differnt times again based on ur market research. including the saturday night late night tourni that starts at three o clock when the clubs finish it would be messy.

there could be tables named after diffrent boards players and of course the Hectorjelly card room were u go to play the top game ur club offers a 10cent 20 cent round of razz round of no limit Omaha. this game would be known as the Semibluff game as u would have to be as good as him to make a profit in it.

waitresses would be forced to wear spurs kits from the 90/91 season when they won the cup. No football would ever be shown at the club however as jeff would have to leave on the girls aloud station 24/7.

Ditpoker does not do cardrooms but if he did they would SUCK!!!!!

7 PM. (And wish it could be earlier.) At 9 PM, I'm not interested. We don't all live next door, after all... And my card room's an hour's drive away.

I'd love to have the option to play live during the week. Currently its just not feasible as I need my beauty sleep. A 6.00 start would be ideal.

8Pm is the perfect start time imo
but irish people just cannot be on time!!

I'm currently giving this serious consideration.

Give it a go anyway. You might find after a while, the lifestyle isn't for you, or its very boring, but no harm done.

Playing poker with 10 hours sleep behind you as opposed to a full days work, makes a huge difference. You'll be playing when you feel like playing too, rather than playing when it suits work.

I have an idea for a 7pm start tournament but I dont think it would get enough support, I have tried to get 3 tournaments going at 7pm in the last 3 years, none were a success.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,860 ✭✭✭ditpoker

big difference between a 7pm start and an 8pm start. and both bohsman and mick have commented how irish people dont turn up on time... allow me use a cinema example...

I intend to go and see FILM X at 8.45pm in UGC Cinemas.
I, however, cant get off my lazy ass and arrive at 9.25pm.
I am shocked... SHOCKED to see that UGC decided to start the film at 8.45pm despite there only being three people there. As a result, next time i want to see a film that starts at 8.45pm I will take it upon myself to get my lazy ass to the cinema for 8.45pm... and if i miss the start, thats my loss!
if you, as a patron, went to a cinema for a film that starts 8.45 and you were there on time with the ladyfriend, just the two of you, and the manager of the cinema said "yea, well there's just the two of you at the moment so we're gonna wait til 9 or so before we start it" would you go back to that cinema in the future?!!

If the Tournament is supposed to start at 8pm, it must start at 8pm….who is not there gets blinded away. They will be on time next time.

    Good point :D

Apart from Dublin though, you usually have only 1, max 2 Casinos per city...so no much choice really.
