So I had an item up on Ebay for auction with a reserve price and a buy it now price. There wasn't a lot of interest in it but I checked the bookmark again today and what's this? The auction has been cancelled. So I checked my email address I use for both Ebay and Paypal and I've received a few emails. The first one sent was the usual "your item has been won" then the 2nd was this:

    6th

So going by all that, I'm guessing it's a scam! lol. Just wondering what they plan to do? I haven't replied to anything yet obviously. I wonder if they would have tried to get me to input my paypal details or what they would have done?

I'm more peed off that I haven't sold the item and I'll have to put it back up for sale than I am that somebody tried scam me!

Aside from the first message, they're all definite scam mails.

Yeah, pretty annoying :( I'm not sure what they actually want me to do though? Is there plan to get free items or is there plan to later get paypal to "verify" my details for security reasons and then they login and clear me out? I'd prefer not to make contact with them at all to find out the next step.

The nigerian fella has stolen someones paypal account

You have been paid from the stolen account and requested to send the item to the nigerian fella

you send them item, the paypal fraud squad will then remove the payment from your account and back into the stolen account, leaving you sheet out of luck.

On top of this those emails probably link to a website that looks like paypal login etc so they can steal your account details too

But I haven't been paid anything yet:confused: My paypal acc is empty, which is normal.

I'd ignore the emails, report the buyer as being suspect to ebay and not post the item to them , just ignore them for the moment, you could even raise the issue with paypal as I'm sure they'd be interested in seeing whether someones account has indeed been hijacked to fake payment to you.

Forward those emails you got to spoof@paypal.com then delete them and forget about them.

Relist your item and start from the beginning again! :D

all the emails (exept the first) are from the wrong urls.
paypal send from @paypal.com, not @mailconsultant.com,
likewise ebay, also the fonts are wrong.
    nice looking scam emails tho.

    very professional.
