i have 3 sky boxes and 3 uk ex sub cards runnin in each. Now ive heard u can get sky+ with no subscription for 10 eur/month. is this true? Also if it is what is the procedure for getting this?

Am i going to have problems cos i have the uk ex sub card? Or do i just let on i have the free to air channels, no cards, get sky+ installed and then slip my car back in? if i do this will the channels on the card be recordable?

also how much is this likely to cost?

Have you the associated address details for any of the UK cards?

If not, then you're out of luck, as you'd need these to activate and use Sky+ features.

no i dont have any details!

i have someone in uk i could get to order me a freesat card though.

then id have an address etc.

could i then buy my own sky plus box...

i presume i wouldnt be able to go for an install as im in ireland?

also if i did manage to connect up the sky plus box and had the address etc...how would i pay? wouldnt they know it was thru an irish account?

On the other hand, could i get sky plus here in ireland for 10 eur a month and have it work with the freely available channels? eg. less the 5, ch4 etc,,, even tho this would be less than desireable

You can only get Sky+ here on Subscription, not standalone (Byte Paddy??) I think. You need a UK address for addon Sky+ sub on a FTV card. An Irish Credit card used to be OK.

Perhaps the simplest (and possibly cheapest) thing to do would be to order a new Sky+ box, on a brand new, 1 mix Irish subscription from Sky? Let Sky come and install it for you, saving you the hassle.

If you prefer the British EPG, send Sky an email after install, telling them you've moved to the UK and will self-install there. You won't be charged for this. Obviously, you'll need an address in the UK to give them. Your account will be transferred from Euros into Pounds. 1 mix cost £16 per month. Any Visa card is fine.

A bit off topic, but Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland will open a Sterling bank account for residents in the Republic. This could be very useful for direct debits to UK companies.

A couple of questions on this:
    1. Will sky need to send out a new card to the UK address or will they just update the existing ROI card.
    2. What email address did you use?

Also, how long, from sending the email, did it take for the EPG to change?

    Thanks

    1. New viewing card to UK address.
    2. My own. (?)

Sorry, I'm being slow. You mean what email address did I send to, right? I just went to the Sky website and filled out the General Enquiry form.

If you tell them you're moving ot UK, will that not mean you'll have to sign a new DD mandate to a UK bank?

I did it slightly different by just buying a Sky+ box, and having a "second-hand contract" sent to my sponsored UK address. Then that was filled, and returned, a card was sent to my UK address, which I had forwarded here, and then I rang Sky (using Skype, no CLID ;)) to get it activated.

I'm paying subscription with an Irish Visa card.

I have since changed my "address" to a NI one, that was just a simple case of ringing them and telling them I'd moved already and in NI now. Gave addy and postcode, and within a few minutes my EPG updated to the NI one.
