My in-laws currently have a dish and a freeview sky box, they have no technology knowledge. They want to connect sky sports. They have been sent a new card. How do they activate it? Do they have to pay for a basic sky package aswell as the Sports and do they have to connect it to a telephone line?:)

Yes, they do have to pay for a basic package as well as the Sports channels.

To activate, just ring Sky (there should be a number on the back of the card). Make sure the card is inserted in the Sky box before ringing, and press Services, 4, 5 to get into System Details menu, which lists serial number, card number etc. You'll be asked for these when you ring Sky.

As your parents already own the Sky box, they won't need to connect a phoneline.

However, if a phoneline is nearby to Skybox, it can be connected, which can make activation quicker, using the onboard modem.
