Access to past exam papers is down. It's giving some weird database error. UCD ftw...

Somehow, im not surprised. Theyre all gone of sis anyway. Ill check the exams and logistics section. Various pages off the ucd webiste have vanished recently, such as the guide to gpa and degrees

Not good, not good, not good!

was wondering where they had all gone alright. Maybe them IT people deleted them when they were doing the blackboard upgrade.....wouldn't at all be surprised.

For the first time ever i can see a good point to my modules all being new with no sample papers.......

I doubt the loss has anything to do with the BB upgrade - they were working fine since.

The exam timetable when you log into sis web is also down.

Exam papers are hosted on ucd's www server, the links page is off the SIS. But I can't find the folder they're all in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,358 ✭✭✭seraphimvc

if anyone find a way to get pass paper/when the system is recovered,do tell and maybe post the link ,would be greatly appreciated:)

Yeh i did that. Learnt my lesson last year. Lecturer took them all down by october because he was going to basically replicate the old ones in my exam, luckily i got a copy

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

I don't think a lecturer can remove past papers but I could be wrong.

There should be a thread where someone whats a past paper just put up what you want and someone might be able to send it through email.Thats the only solution at the moment

And I suppose we should download all our notes from Blackboard and lecturers' websites too. But what if my pc fails? Better print everything out so...

A reasonable level of competence isn't too much to expect from the UCD IT services.

Yes it is. This may not be their fault tho, would the exams and logistics dept have something to do with the uploading of past papers?

    oh jesus god no!

More than likely - like BB is quite obviously IT domain, the exams paper looks far more like an Exams office system

So... we shouldn't back up our stuff because there's a possibility of our backup failing?

Ah surely they'll be back up tomorrow

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

I'm sure they will, out of curiosity did anyone think to email either past.papers@ucd.ie or assessment@ucd.ie to point out that the links were down?

There is a point where you have to break the endless chain.

Tried ringing, no answer, left a message. To be fair to UCD, they do try and ensure that crap like this happens when there's no one around to help, ie. the weekend.

I think I stumbled onto the directory with all of the past papers by accident. I'm not exactly sure whether I should even be in there in the first place, so...I dunno if I should be posting the link. Mods?

Unless there's something in there that wasn't previously available, then I don't see why not.

    Link

The papers are organised by year, but other then that there doesn't seem to be any pattern to how they put them up so...you may have to look through a thousand odd papers from each year to find yours...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

    Wow that's a mess. Nice find anyway, if I get truely desperate I might end up actually searching for mine... ^^;

Yeah...bit of a mess...if you find your course, all the papers are grouped together as far as I can see. I found the politics papers for 2006 by luck, they begin at 200646768 if anyone needs them.

It looks like you are doing alot of study, What course are you doing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,567 ✭✭✭delta_bravo

I would say that theres a slim chance this years papers may even be on that storage thing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,033 ✭✭✭Chakar

The papers for the individual subjects in Arts and for courses are grouped together. So if you have a past exam paper used last year, you can use the number written on the paper or as the name of the paper (e.g. 20064567) to check for other exam papers for later years.

That will narrow down the search presumably you have the papers and thus the number.

    :D
They're not, the last time it was modified was 9th October 2007 and that was the 2006 papers. I don't think they upload them until well after the exams are finished.

    Politics and Sociology.

Politics for 2003 start at 200336105 and end at 200336124. I'm done....let us never speak of this again.
