Accord has a very good rep. Id buy one over the Civic - especially the Euro R model...mmmmmmmmmmm:p

Two different class of cars. But from a reliability POV yes the Accord is there with the Civic. As are most Honda's.

Do you have any specific comparisons you are looking for?

I've driven both and I have a Civic 1.8 myself. The accord I drove is a 2.2 diesel and its a great engine. The only spec the diesel accord is available in here is the top EX spec so you get leather and air con and all the toys. Petrol models are available in a variety of lower spec levels. The diesel accord is also very economical. My old man is putting intergalactic mileage on his and getting about 55 mpg.

Like jayok said, which one you prefer depends on what you need from the car. Definately wait till July if you're going to buy either (assuming you're buying new or importing), as VRT and tax on both will drop a lot.

If you're going to buy a petrol Accord, buy before July.

    Indeed.

Can't go wrong with a Honda, as long as it's an honest 'un.

howya, i have an accord type S real nice drive, with sports suspension, body kit , 17 inch alloys, 155BHP, auto, (with manual mode) excellent handling, and nice power too.. highly recommend one, it has a nice spec, electric folding mirrors, all round e/w , climate control, cd, cruise control, heated mirrors, remote boot opener, alcantara half leather, very good spec..
    loads airbags, etc

take one for a drive, an excellent all round car.. not bad on fuel either, getting 45mpg on motorway runs..

    155BHP,
I took the original 2.4 Type-S (190-something bhp) for a spin some years ago. 6-speed gearbox and very very smooth.

Super looking car. Must say between the Civic(hatch) and that Honda are creating great looking cars these days. Honda should be ashamed of themselves for letting the Civic saloon look so boring, cause this is what it should have looked like vall the time! Must try and persuade my old man to get one of these instead of an Avensis when he changes his car next year!(well I've been trying to get him to get a BMW of course:D but he doesn't like the 3 series cause it's quite a bit smaller than his current Avensis, hes a fan of the 5 series but even after the VRT reduction hes not spending that kind of money a new 520d would cost on his new car).

I hope the Accord will go as well as it looks. Hopefully the diesel will be offered in something cheaper than the top of the range version it is presently offered in.

the mirrors are folding and heated, they clear frost off in a few secs! real cool. one thing ill say is that the grip in the type s is great, comes from the factory with bridgestone potenza tyres, RE 040 nice and wide, 17” 225/45 R17

the handling is fantastic... and theres a sweet sound from the engine when you give it some welly!

i have been checking the oil regularly and it doesent seem to have burnt any at all... , in the manual it says it might burn some, but it hasnt !!?

here is some info on the tyres, taken from etyres.co.uk
    Bridgestone Potenza RE040
All agree that the Bridgestone Potenza RE040, designed for high performance, high-powered cars, offers excellent grip and comfort in dry conditions.

However, reviews are mixed about performance in the wet.

Some find that the grip suffers, but other claim that the tyre still provides excellent grip.

The fact that it is original equipment on many cars including Audi TT, BMW 3-Series and Nissan 350Z speaks strongly in its favour.

The directional tread pattern creates a small amount of noise but good stability.

Overall the Bridgestone Potenza RE040 is a great performer
    .

heres the top speed of the accord 2.0 type s
some silly bastids driving the ****e out of their cars, dont try this at home.

I've owned both. Both are excellent. Just changed an 5 year old Accord 1.8 for the new Civic 1.8 saloon. New saloon is great (143 BHP). More conservative than the hatchback but still much nicer than most of the other saloons in the same price bracket out there. Its well equipped including a 6 CD changer built into the dash, 6 gears and climate control etc. The Accord is due for change this year and current models will date. The Accord is a big, heavy, grunty, bruiser of a car (in the best poosible way) but the cost is excessive. The Civic saloon gives 43 mpg.
