Irish SKY+ in UK

Five years ago we bought an Irish Sky card in order to receive the Irish stations in the UK - It has been great and hassle free! I have just bought a SKY Plus + in Ireland for use in UK. I had thought it was a simple job of substituting new Sky Plus for old Sky - now I realise I need it installed. Will I need to contact Sky in order to get it installed even if I use a local independent satellite company to do it for me? IF they realise I am in UK I worry they may cancel the card which defeats the whole purpose of the exercise. They can tell where a call is coming from and got the third degree from them once although I had thought I had blocked my UK phone number. Any advice?? Is a phone call required?? I do have an Irish mobile.

Let me get this right: you're replacing your current digibox with a Sky+ box and you're using an Irish sub.

In this case, you should ring Sky and asked to have your box 'paired' or 'married' to the new box.

There's no real reason that requires the box to be connected to the landline to do this. If you're asked, you could say yes but that it's engaged.

It might be worth using your Irish number for this one if it spares you grief from customer support.

They'll still need an installer out to fit the second cable from dish to the Sky+ box. Though if you're any way competent with cables, it's not a big job to do it yourself. Just change LNB on dish to the Quad LNB supplied with box, and run a new cable from one of the spare outputs to where Sky+ box will be.

If you think you do need an installer, get an independant one (not thru Sky), and don't let them ring Sky to pair the card.

When ringing Sky, do not call from a UK landline, unless you're sure the number is blocked or use your Irish mobile to call, or Skype. You will need to ring Sky to pair the card to the new box and have the recording feature activated.

Also should note that when ringing Sky, make sure you have the Irish name and address to which the card was issued, as you'll be asked for these details (and phonenumber if one was written)
