    Its a great structure and all but its going on way too late, so as to not have to change the structure we are thinking of making it a 7 handed tournament, thoughts?

    Oscar, (slightly off topic) is there an afternoon game today?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

    No, not much interest shown and myself and Conor couldnt make it. Still hoping my match is rained off though, need sleep.

    if your going to do that, why not make it a shoot-out tourney, 6 hand.

    or

    reduce the first 4 levels and starting stacks.

    A shootout will last longer than the normal tournament which defeats the purpose of what Oscar is trying to do

    Make it 6 handed, no shootout.

    the reason that this is a good tourni is structure i wudnt chnge it. it runs late but if you have to be somewhere the next day dont play. this started an hour late last night maybe start on time. how about starting at half seven or eight this will make a difference to finishing up a bit earlier.

    correct me if i'm wrong but this has never started on time. I, like thechamp87 said months ago - if you start the tournament dead on half 8, regardless of the numbers and let people enter within the first level, that this would benefit this tournament in future. let the tournament stuggle for one night, people will then turn up on time knowing that if they don't they won't play, example the SE starts on time(i'm not a fan of the place), but at least they start when they say they will and people are always there on time!!!

    cudnt agree more start on time start on time start on time. one level of late entries.

    I've had some thoughts on this today, first off, it's a fantastic tournament, with a great structure and plenty of value, and when I play I'm prepared for a late one (it is Friday night afterall).

    It really needs to start strictly at 8.30 though.

    My idea is as follows, give the usual early bird chips, start on time regardless of numbers and allow late entries right up to the break. Give one of the dealers a dummy stack, which he blinds away (he could post every time seat one posts*), when new players arrive, the desk asks the dealer for a count and that's the stack the new arrival plays with.

    *not to the pot obv.

    Thoughts?

    I am hoping that the 6pm sattelite will bring people in the door earlier making it easier to start at 8 30 - there were 2 people in the building at 8 30, the 3 people that complained about late starting entered the building at 9pm, 7 handed doesnt seem too popular, we'll wait a few days see what more people think before deciding anything.

    I'm one of the three that complained, but I'm also one of the two that were on time.

    oscar regardless of the numbers- it has to start earlier, example, last time i was there - i was in for 8:20 - for the early bird chips, the tournament started at 9:10 - so basically i was hanging round for 50 mins doin nothing, maybe the idea is that i'll play blackjack and the floor games will make money - in reality i just won't bother turning up cause i'm just hanging round doin nothing.

    As for Lazare's idea, that just seems messey, how about, late entries allowed up to end of level 1 and you start with 7K(or less), and if you there on time, i.e 8:30(when it starts) you start with 7.5K,

    OR EVERYONE COULD JUST TURN UP ON TIME!!!!!!

    Not the idea at all. It will start with the 5 satellite winners plus any early arrivers next week.

    I love this tourney..brilliant structure but I would love it to start earlier or on time ...I have to say if I'm heading in I'll leave home around 10 to 9 to get in there around 9 cos otherwise i'll just be hanging around...and even then i usually have time to pop round the corner for a swift one and arrive back bang on time for the first hand....if i genuinely thought it would start at 8.30 I would be there for that time no bother at all...

    6 Handed. H.O.S. 20 minute clock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    - Start on time;

    - Keep stacks and clock as they are;

    - Introduce a 100 ante from the 200 / 400 level and keep all antes as a quarter of the big blind as the structure develops;

    THAT WOULD BE GREAT!! Would shorten the time of the tournament and introduce something new in the Irish tourney scene. Large antes like that seem to be popping up more often in the US according to the live TRs I read on 2 + 2, etc. I think it would create a very interesting game dynamic.

    If you didn't want to do that, I WOULD BE A HUGE FAN OF A SHORTHANDED TOURNEY. But I won't personally play a 20 min clock anymore.

    Ok heres what we're going to try

    - Start on time with the 5 sattelite winners and anyone that comes on time

    - leave the structure as it is for December and see how that changes things but then change to either bigger antes as suggested by Lloyd or make the first 4 levels 20 minutes with the rest 30 minute.

    - Monday and Wednesday are probably going to change, 55 shorthanded doublechance probably on Monday.

    whether there are 2 people or 20 people start at 8.30. bohsman pointed out that i didnt shop up til 9, with anto and lloyd, but we didnt show til 9 cos we KNOW it wont start til 9+... if we thought itd start at 8.30 we'd be there at 8.30!

    would changing it to:
    8k stack for anyone on time. if you arrive from the 2nd hand onward you get 7500... two levels of late entries, so until 9.30... realistically anyone who shows up at 9.45 for a tournament advertsided as an 8.30 start is taking the piss anyway so they shouldnt be let in.

    as for the clock...
    we dont need at 30min break after 3 levels... we dont NEED a break at all, but whats wrong with 10-15 mins break.
    25 min clock the whole way through!?!?
    and i know there is a desire to have a clock with blind time levels ending in 5 or a 0... but in DIT we used a 17 min clock which worked perfectly. a 27min clock, or 28 min clock means over 10+ levels you're saving 30 mins.

    so... 27 min clock (10x 3mins) means you save 30 mins. 8.30 start (saves 40 mins from the 9.10 start the other night) and 15 mins off the break and you'll have saved aprox an hour and twenty mins... big diff from a 4.30 finish and a 3am finish.

    or even 25 min clock til the final table, and 30 mins atthe final table, which is where you want the play.

    If your not in before it starts you dont get in. Easy.

    Not so easy. That would have left us with 2 runners last week and 22 more runners going elsewhere.

    STOP RESTATING THIS!! The reason you had two people there on time was because the issue of late starting times has never been properly addressed - and your tournaments have already developed a bad reputation for starting late (particularly the case of the monthly game).

    When I got upstairs at 9pm the dealers had yet to have all stacks prepared and on the tables - with decks sorted, etc.

    YOU need to take the lead in getting people in on time. The SE just deal the first hand at the appointed starting time. And that's it. As a consequence players expect that they need to be there for the advertised kick - off. ENOUGH.

    Believe me Lloyd Im on the case.
